I really am glad I found your channel . You explain everything in such a way I can understand. I also am rebuilding my 92 Chevy four wheel drive so this will help the spraig bearing went out an roughed up some things I had no forward fears but had reverse. So I drove in reverse all the way home. I have it tore down but having trouble finding parts. But I will be watching your class an maybe I’ll figure all of it out. Enjoy it very much. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the presentation Prof Kelly but I think the country would be full of better drivers if we all had to drive manuals. Automatics enable us to see drivers with a drink in one hand and a burger in the other, something we don't see in countries with less or no automatics prevalent. Also manuals, except for needing clutches replaced, almost never break

You are great man prof, sorry my question is that one of these manufactures used special fiber disc material with out or with slightly waste and pollution in order to keep the fluid clean with the best efficiency lubricant condition for along time.. thanks

You're the best thanks again! It is easy to visualize the break function piston in that the piston is not rotating and the piston is applying pressure to the plate that is also not moving. How does clutch piston apply force to the pressure plate of a rotating clutch pack?
@fraggedsirefragged57763 жыл бұрын
I have a question on the clutch/brake pistons, Do they work like regular hydraulic cylinders as they are a CLOSED unit, Or do they have a way of bypassing some of the fluid while maintaining the pressure on the packs? I want to say that I like watching your videos and have really learned from what I have watched. Thank You for all these videos.

Wow, you have a cut open version of the A343F Toyota trans. I have one in my 97 Land Cruiser that still seems to be in good condition but I'm trying to find info on it. Wish I could attend your transmission class just to get up to speed. I have a 2005 Chevy 3500 Duramax, Allison 1000 trans. Want to add a torque converter with the billet cover, go through the clutches and add the 5-6 speed conversion kit. Seems like there should be a work around on the valve body and TCM reprogramming. I see that you have videos on several vehicles I own. The Lexus 8 speed video was great, I have a 2014 LS460 L AWD and it uses a variant of that trans, just a deeper final, think it's like 3.14. And then a Toyota 2013 V-6 which you also cover in details. At 66, I'm running outta time. Haaa.

The cutaway A131L is fascinating - I had a 2000 Corolla with one of those in it - how I have a 2000 Prizm with the A245e. Cheap little beaters that just go and go. The 131L wasn't particularly enjoyable to drive attached to either a 1ZZ-FE (my car) or a 4A-FE (my Grandma's 96 Corolla).

I'm not a student, just an industrial mechanic by trade (formerly known as a millwright), but still enjoying these educational videos very much. One question: what is usually the pressure applied by that B2 brake piston by the hydraulic system?
@WeberAuto4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I believe the fluid pressure applied to that brake can be anywhere from 70 - 280 psi (482-1930 kPa) based upon the engine load.
@oijhhytdirhrbru2 жыл бұрын
The 10 speed transmission is developed based on ZF's 8HP gen2, and you can find similar B1, B2 brakes design with wave separate springs. The B2 brake actually has two set of springs, one for the wave springs to separate clutches plates evenly(to reduce drag torque when the brake is open, also benefit for NVH), and the other one is a set of coil springs to help reset the piston.

For thr fluids that actuates the pistons on a clutch pack, when it's deactivated does the fluid needs to be completely drained out of the piston actuation volume? Also the same question for the fluids in the clutch pack, does it needs to be drained out when its active?

Such an elegant place and sure presentation !!! My astra automatic gear got its outer shell cracked beyond recovery . All the oil came out . Some say that the gear can be restored excellently by changing the shell . Some say it will never be as good as new again and will be ill all the time . I wish for your advise because a new gear costs me a lot of money 😓
@MariuszZaleski133 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the knowledge. I was wondering what is the purpose of these wave-shaped springs. Maybe that's why motorbike wheel spins slowly when bike is on the center stand, not in a gear and I rev it a bit. A bit of friction between steel and fiber plates as they usually don't have these elements.
@WeberAuto3 жыл бұрын
They help cushion or soften the clutch apply.
@MariuszZaleski133 жыл бұрын
@@WeberAuto Thanks. Was my assumption that they help separating clutch plates preventing spinning of the wheel not correct then?

IF I was to guess, the wavy springs in between the steel plates are mainly to reduce friction (when clutch is not applied) for better fuel efficiency, and not so much for reduced clutch wear.’ Do Any DTC like the Acura MDX/RDX have those wavy separator springs?
@abourawaaha83994 жыл бұрын
When you start sandwishing the plates when your in a rebuild, do you apply transjel, some atf fluid or soak them first in atf? And my second qeustion is, does the friction material stick to a magnet? Thanx
@WeberAuto4 жыл бұрын
Hello, use transmission fluid for soaking and lubrication. Transjel is only for holding pieces in place while assembling. Friction material does not stick to a magnet. Best wishes.
@abourawaaha83994 жыл бұрын
@@WeberAuto so, the frictionplates have to be soaked? How long maybe?
@throttlebottle59064 жыл бұрын
@@abourawaaha8399 I would do a 24 hour soak(you cannot soak them too long!) days weeks months, years would be fine, as long as in sealed container.

What is so special about the ZF 8HP automatic transmission? Why does it stand out from other similar 8 speeds torque converter automatic transmissions?
@oijhhytdirhrbru2 жыл бұрын
It has a genius planetary gear set design through a multiple generations of computation instead of traditional planet gear sets like Lepelletier, CR-CR, Simpson, achieving a well balanced design of: (1) four degrees of freedom. (2) optimized step ratio of each gear and the overall gear ratio(7.0~8.6). (3)low torque loss, only 2 clutches/brakes open at every gear. (4) quick and agile shift(skipping gears is almost possible in every gear) for sportiness. With the help of the wave separation springs and the integrated centrifugal pendulum in the DMF, the efficiency is increased further more. ZF has also registered multiple patents about 8 speed designs using traditional planet gear sets before 2010, and it has find none of them are match for the actual 8 speed design. EPA has published a benchmark(by FEV) on Gen1 8HP and several other transmissions(incl Aisin Gen2 transverse 8 speed), confirming its excellent efficiency.
