Will Scalr introduce drift detection?
Drift detection is a common request we get from customers and prospects alike, and it is part of the roadmap. It will most likely be implemented in Scalr in two phases. The first phase will provide visual insights into when drift happens. The second phase will provide tooling to help remediate drift automatically.
How can I use Scalr if I have several teams that are using different VCS and CI providers?
In Scalr, VCS connections can be defined at the account level and shared across environments, which are logical groupings of workspaces. Or VCS connections can be made at the individual environment level. Teams can be segmented by environment, giving each team the ability to autonomously set up their workflow if they choose to do so. Scalr supports GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, and Bitbucket.
How do self-hosted agents work?
Self-hosted agents are useful to reach non-public APIs (a common use case for that is Kubernetes for example). The agent polls Scalr for tasks and executes the runs behind your firewall. The communication is always going to be outbound from the agent to the Scalr server. Agents can easily be set up using CLI commands. It is a useful feature for businesses that have high security or regulatory constraints and still want to leverage Scalr SaaS.
What is an agent pool?
An agent pool is a group of agents that can be assigned to one or more workspaces. Having several agents within one pool essentially gives you more concurrency.
How can we add some CI steps in GitLab first?
Thanks to Scalr's Terraform CLI support, you can delegate only the Terraform execution part of your pipeline to Scalr. You can let Gitlab CI handle the CI steps before and after Scalr is executed (for example, checkov for static code analysis). We also have a pre- and post-hooks feature which is coming out very soon.
We already have automated testing with GitHub actions and state in S3. What is Scalr giving me that I don't already have?
