Webinar: Fast solutions in the agriculture sector that will benefit the agriculture sector

Agriculture contributes to 40% of anthropogenic methane emissions (CCAC, 2021), which rises to 60% when accounting for the full extent of the food system (ClimateWorks Foundation & Global Methane Hub, 2023). The challenge of reducing methane emissions in agriculture is exacerbated by the failure to scale existing solutions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). While implementable technologies and innovations for reducing methane emissions from livestock exist today (see FAO 2023 for an extensive overview of methane mitigation measures), social and economic barriers obstruct their adoption in many countries.
This second CCAC-TEAP brief seeks to address these barriers by focusing on innovative technologies that increase farmer capacity while lowering the capital investments required to adopt methane-mitigating practices. This brief outlines the known solutions available to farmers in low- and middle-income countries. It highlights two solutions for increasing the adoption of those practices: digital agriculture services, and results-based payments. By focusing on these two technologies, the TEAP aims to foster an environment for rapid deployment that unlocks significant reductions in methane emissions from agriculture.
