I have a microphone, the Shure OEM model DY22 SN 5249, essentially a 556S, which was purchased by my grandfather in the early 1950s. This microphone has the original red cloth, and it was a very early model with an XLR connector. I also have the Crown tape recorder he purchased then. (They were still called International Radio and Electronics Corporation at the time.)
