In 1916, Lieutenant Pritchard invented a bayonet for trench warfare to fit this gun. It was a commercial failure and only about 200 were made. I bought a Chinese replica which fits this gun. HOWEVER (!) it needed a lot of corrective filing but worth while to add to the historical homage.
@drdoom-skull22444 жыл бұрын
The army issued MkVI had fixed rear sights too (there was a target model for private market with adjustable sights). The replica is correct in that regard. Original grips were bakelite not wood. The front sight was actuallly replaceable (in case it got damaged); here it is just molded. And one minor detail: the fake shells are smaller the original .455 cases (closer to .38). I have the pellet version and can hit consistently the standard 10-m air pistol target at 20 yards (for that type of guns, that's very good results).

It's funny, a bunch of the guys on one of the Airgun Forums I visit used to be skeptical of CO2 pistols,.... until lockdown, and now many have CO2 replicas and 6m ranges in their garages : -) This reminds me, I need to order a couple more 14cm pellet traps.

Nice review! Seeing that today I received my MK VI. Weathered beautifully. The detail is superb. Nice grip which allowed my smaller hands to get a good grip. Then it hit me as I became Michael Caine in Zulu. I began to yell Fire. It passed quickly. The Ledgened series is marvelously addictive. Time machines and they shoot darned well. Thanks for the great videos!

Just bought one of these from a curio shop. It's like brand new but unboxed. I was rather confused because on the side it says .177 (4.5mm) BB, but it has a rifled barrell. Now I always thought that you didn't shove steel BB's down rifled barrells, but watching this vid, it also says .177 (4.5mm), but shows a symbol for a pellet, so I must conclude mine is a BB pistol. I used to have a genuine .455 way back in the day and I am well impressed with the authenticity of this pistol.

Another good video buddy; one that will go into my personal collection offline. This gun is on my 'GOTTA GET LIST'. But I want to get a weathered one, if possible. I know that they are/were made in an airsoft version. If I can't find one this side of the pond, I'll just get one and weather it myself. On this side of the pond the pistol also comes with an old (replica) 1937 Small Arms Training pamphlet. Also, as to a bit of history. The triangular pieces of metal, on each side, in front of the cylinder was so that it could more easily slide into an holster w/o snagging. As to being a fan of historical replicas; ALL of my guns are replica based, albeit some are of newer guns, such as the Uzi & Browning Buck Mark URX. Like you, I have my Luger, 1895 NGT, 2 Mosin Nagants (M1891 & M1944).

Nice review. Realistic replica airguns like this are becoming very popular even here in the USA where the real thing is available. Airguns are a lot less expensive to buy and shoot, and you don't have to drive 100 miles just to find a shooting range. Just set up your own personal range in the backyard or indoors.

Hi Andy, I assume, since you are doing it, that it's OK to dry fire the Webley without CO2? ( I emailed Webley and Scott twice asking this question but they haven't responded, nor do they have a working phone number. Apparently they must want their customers to never contact them).

Always wanted a Webley/Fosbury automatic revolver, but I never seem to have a spare $14,000 laying around. And unfortunately, to date, the only Webley Mark revolvers I've come across were .455 converted to .45ACP. Someday I'll find one in .38/200 in decent shape.
@MaxTalbot693 жыл бұрын
Anyone who chooses to shoot .45 ACP in an original MkVI should use only reduced-pressure handloads, otherwise the cylinder is likely to crack. That's what happened to mine after shooting military surplus .45 ammo.

Great video Andy, but I have to say I've never seen the real thing in this finish. I own the .177 gunmetal finish version and the 6mm BB gunmetal. Even these, pristine as they were, did not look right to me. Both have now been given a battle-worn look. And this my point, the nickel-plated finish just looks too perfect and shiny. I own one of these beautiful guns in "Exhibition Style" (as shown in the video) - which means its surface is shiny silver/chrome. It is one of my favorites in my gun showcase. I would pay some money to get wooden grips IF wooden grips would have been the historical correct choice for this revolver. But, I'm not shure about this. Maybe, I will do some investigation on what is the right grip style for this service revolver... In the very beginning I did only see pistols - since they were mechanical wonders to me. But, after diving deeper into the history of the world of fire guns I opened my heart to revolvers too. And I found them beeing ingeniously constructed and very reliable guns.
@MaxTalbot693 жыл бұрын
The original grips were hard rubber or bakelite. I used to shoot a real Webley MkVI. At first I thought it was the ugliest revolver I'd ever seen, but as time went on I grew fond of it. It was very well fitted, accurate and had an excellent single-action trigger pull. The break-open action made it quick to load and quick to simultaneously eject all the empty cartridge cases. If I could find a good one for a reasonable price I'd buy it in an instant. Incidentally, Kleins in Chicago used to sell these along with many other surplus military guns. Prior to 1968 they could be shipped directly to the customer via parcel post. I think the Webleys cost about $25 in Very Good condition.

@@MaxTalbot69 Hah when l first saw the Webley years and years ago l thought what an ugly looking thing, but like you it's brutal looks grew on me and l now consider it a beautiful looking gun, it aims naturally and feels great in the hand, and if you ran out ammo you could easily bludgeon the enemy to death with its heavy frame lol.
