I was thinking about restoring an old-timer Albatross Dr. 1 triplane.

It is a british or belgian bulldog or probably a tranter which unfortunately has been previously deactivated (note the ground off firing pin on hammer and the fact he didnt bother cleaning the insides of the barrel as it is probably plugged). Another thing which surprised me at first as its lockwork looked modern but after cleaning up it became clear the lockwork matches its age. you can see the very characteristic tranter lockwork with hooked pawl for the double action and the seperate sear for single action. Also note that before the advent of breaktop webleys the aforementioned tranter lockwork (with slight modifications) was the most prevalent lockwork for double and single action revoovers.

Do you believe all the metal was pitted like that when it originally left the factory? Or is that result of all corrision it experienced?
@insane_aneel Жыл бұрын
Yes it's not smooth
@bensmitt7088 Жыл бұрын
It’s almost as if it was cast into shape and then just basically “cleaned up” rather than machined.
@ericpedigo685 Жыл бұрын
Well many guns made back then were mass-produced (for the period) and the easiest way for them to do that was to pour them into a casting mold usually cast iron, the metal is very soft and high and iron so with that being said the rust would pit the gun overtime so the pitting is due to the rust but they were not entirely smooth when first produced

I think that you must get inspiration from the Three Stooges….. When tossed the pistol grip and it hit your associate and he retaliated by throwing that big block of wood back at you! The only thing I haven’t figured out was the manufacturer, model name, and caliber. Interesting video as usual

I think when something is pitted and worn that badly it is time to scrap it. After all the hard work and skill you put into it, that gun is still something I would not feel comfortable shooting. It is just too far gone.

99% of videos like this are faked. They often “weather” and oxidize metal objects themselves and then make everyone believe they just found it in the ground or in a attic, garage, etc. is this guy legitimate??
@Guilherme__99 Жыл бұрын
They aren't "found in the attic", they are customer items
