I have no words to say how beautiful your work was. As we say here in Brazil: YOU KILLED IT! Congratulations .

Amazing how you restored that old bowie knife. It looks much better and it cuts like a knife. I also like that new handle you made of epoxy and straw. Excellent work.

I don't think it was a BB gun they were using in the blade, but nails. My family in West Virginia all carry Bowie and camp knives, they use the thick blade as like a flat hammer to pound nails back into fence posts. Damages the blades, but they regrind them constantly and the metal is so thick. That could also maybe the pits.

Nicely done... Say, was the squiggly line along the blade-edge a hamon? Did the edge feel significantly harder than the back? Personally I wouldn't have used excelsior/epoxy for the grip slabs but that's me, it turned out well... Altogether a good job!😃

Why hand sand when you have a grinder? I know a 1x30 isn't great (I have two) but it would be a lot easier to use that than to sand by hand. I used mine to make a few knives out of an old mill blade before upgrading to the three 2x72 grinders I have now.

Those handles remind me of Hasbrouck sort of. I used to work on yachts and we would get clients from Holland and Denmark and they would eat their fries and hash brown with mayonnaise. It was so disgusting but is common there. That's what that reminded me of, hasbrowns covered in mayo. They woukd then apply pepper or bell pepper flakes sometimes. Different folks

Fries and hash browns with mayo is really tasty-good! But then I was mostly raised in a Dutch-immigrant community here in the States post ww2... Sometimes with malt vinegar!😋
