I am happy to report that after following this YT tutorial my 55 UJ635V with webOS 3.9.2 was rooted successfully. However I am less happy to report that it was mostly useless because whatever I try to install ends with an error ( fails to download the package with "stream failed, reason: unable to get local issuer certificate" ). :)

Have you used a different method previously? If so then this won’t work. Also check the website to see if your firmware has been patched by LG as they’ve put out 2 firmware updates since this was released and if you have automatic updates enabled you’ve probably updated.

@@MATechKZbin As I have mentioned, with the method that you have described the TV _was_ rooted. It is true that I did try another method some time ago but meanwhile I reset it to factory defaults ( twice ). Last firmware update issued by LG ( v 6.10.50 ) was 18 months ago and at the time I did not care about rooting so I did allow the TV to update to that version. Meanwhile I disabled the updates. I enabled ssh and I will try to fiddle around, see what gives. Anyway, thanks for the video and the advices !

Thanks for the interesting video. LG TVs WebOS for me has always been a bit frustrating in terms of support. Iv found myself connecting an android TV box where i install apps like kodi and hd streamz for example. Is this homebrew method safe for my tv ? And if i turn off the update option then how will my tv update ots software ?

If you update it you’ll no longer be able to use homebrew as it’ll get patched. It’s your choice whether you use this or not, I’m just providing the method on how to do it.

You know of any other ways I get apps on my LG TV. The app store has so many silly apps and none of the ones that are useful. Best one I installed so far has to be streamio with the torrentio add on. Isn't there a homebrew app that does macros or something? My TV has a problem where it will keep reverting to the TV speaker, I keep setting it to HDMI ARC but when I switch the TV on half the time it will either not switch on my AVR at all or it will switch it on but the speaker will still be set to TV speakers and I have to switch it to HDMI ARC manually, it rarely works how it's supposed to and it's a huge PITA. So can I use a homebrew app that will send a macro command to set the TV to HDMI ARC at boot or shortly after?

@@MATechKZbin well I was watching some video about the TV executing the PS5 jailbreak and they said there is some kind of macro app and that you can set it up to perform the jailbreak when you press a number button or when you turn the TV on I forget the name of the app and the video went to quick for me to see the other options and it didn't really get into using it for anything other than doing the jailbreak

This is exactly what I’ve been looking as well, I have a windows 11 desktop without Mira cast, and wanted really hard to stream it with steam link on my lg tv. Did you find out if it works? Also, do you know if retro arch works well too? Idk, my tv can barely run its own apps, I can’t believe it would run retro arch lol

I followed the steps from 1-5 and did see an error message about being unable to play the MP3 whether or not the exploit works. But didn't see the pop-up messages tell the rooting is complete or anything about rooting. Anything I might miss in steps? thanks

If you follow the steps exactly as I advised it will be able to see 2 files in the tmp folder. If you’re not seeing that then you’ve not formatted the usb correctly or haven’t saved the files correctly so go back to the webpage and make sure you follow the instructions exactly as advised and it will work.

This won’t work if you used the previous method, if that method worked but doesn’t now then it means you’re probably on a firmware that’s been patched. Check the website to confirm.

Just update the tv, if it’s supported it’ll automatically add it. Don’t know why you’d want to do this because it’s 1- horrible and slow 2- removes any chance of home brew ever working on your tv

Most likely you’ve updated your tv and thus the exploit has been patched. You can confirm this via the website which will list compatible firmware versions.

If you’ve tried the old method then it probably won’t work. Basically the only thing I can imagine working would be a hardware reset on the tv but I definitely wouldn’t do that and lose all my picture settings so best bet would be to contact the developer using the link in the description and see if they can suggest anything.

I plugged my usb stick into my tv and it asked to be formatted i did. Then extracted all the files to the root. But when i goto music player just the .mp3 shows. I put the usb stick in my computer and its shows both files. it "plays" but nothing happens after that

Most likely not but always worth trying for the sake of a few mins this process takes. Also exploits will always be patched if you update your firmware on any device, same applies to phone exploits where they’ll usually always be patched on latest firmwares.

The icon you’re pointing to is orange and the homebrew icon is red/pink 🤦🏽‍♂️ The icon you’re referring to is the homebrew channel updater which stays installed (as does KZbin or any other app you download) even when you remove homebrew until you go and manually uninstall it.

If you want to keep the home brew app working then you should disable updates as lg love to patch any working exploits. If you don’t mind losing the root exploit then leave updates enabled.

The second file 😂 No seriously though, check that you have the main downloaded folder in the root directory of the usb stick and that is formatted in fat32. Alternatively try your photo/video player app so my tv used the dedicated music app but it may differ on other models. Ideally you want to play it using the music app as the tv is tricked into thinking it’s a mp3 file but for that you need to have both files present.

I got this all to work except for installing KZbin Ad-Free. When I try to install, it says an error occurred during the installation. Reason: Unable to get local issuer certificate. Every fresh tv I’ve tried this on it’s worked so something must be wrong. Not sure what exactly you want me to do, I didn’t create the exploit so can’t help you with troubleshooting, I’m just bringing you the method. Check the website to be sure your tv and firmware meets the requirements.

Hi I tried doing this but only shows 1 mp3 file on TV instead of 2 and when I open mp3 file nothing happens. I tried going on rootmy.tv but just comes up with error message "closed". I have lg 49ub850v 2017 tv with software version 05.06.10, any guidance? Thanks sir

You need to check the files you downloaded and make sure you’re using the correct music player or photos and video player depending on your tv. If you’ve just used the website method then most likely you’ve ruined any chances of it working for you now.

Check the website to make sure your tv meets the spec required then, if it doesn’t then this won’t work. This is for any LG tv roughly 2015-2023 from what I remember but you need to have a music player for this method to work.

hi bro,..same like others,..i used LG OLED TV E6 w/ os 05.07++ after I follow all instruction..they just warn file is not recognized..that it..nothing happen after that..not such like installed finish/completed or even appear restart notif. before that I also tried rootmy.tv but only appear dev mode..not a homebrew...please help us,..

Your tv might be too old, check the website for compatibility
