When you learn something in spite of any fear or mental blocks you've built up over time regarding the subject, you know you're watching a great tutorial. This is that.

I like the way you have the notes for the viewers to see and learn as well as showing the finger works on the piano. Thanx :)

This is my testimony. Im so excited right now. Im commenting again 30 mins after the previous. 30 minutes ago, I didnt know how to play scale runs AT ALL. I always saw it as a huge task. It really doesnt take years or months to learn like you said( not with your method). I just did it in 30 minutes. OMG

I’ve been playing for almost 50 years and am a pretty good player, but always struggled with scale runs (this is where piano lessons would have been helpful). This was eye-opening as to why I struggled (grouping!)! Thanks!

Yes! This is how I teach scales now (since about 5 years ago). My teacher taught me this method when i was working on an exam because I had trouble remembering where the black keys were in a bunch of minor scales. She also added the concept of paying attention to where the black keys were.. black and white patterns.

I've been playing piano for a year now and the only technique I've needed to learn better was running my scales. This video has helped me so much and I practice this at least 15 minutes a day on multiple scales. Great job and thanks for the expert lesson.

Yes. Also what helped me is making sure the knuckle of my thumb is touching the key rather than the tip of my thumb. It's a strength thing. Probably doesnt work for everyone though

The angle is very important, I found it on Martha Argerich's(a lot of pianists, do watch their wrist angle and thumb) playing from a top view camera. But I still couldn't run evenly and fast on the chromatic scale, just need more practice.
@joelmanzano87619 жыл бұрын
hi Shawn, thank u for that effective technique. I just want to ask a favor, can you show us how to play quarter triplets that has 3 on top of the 2nd quarter note? hope to hear the answer from you. this confused me.

This was really timely but does the same rules apply for scales on A major f# and E major/ Eb? Would be good on fingering scales on theres alot of teaching vids are on c scale. Thanks
@dathyr111 жыл бұрын
Thanks Shawn for the great lesson. I wanted to know does this also apply to doing triad arpeggios(example C triad) up and down the keyboard far as doing the Angle. And do you have to use a larger angle to get the crossover thunb on the next set of three notes in the chord. Watching other good players doing arpeggios, it always looks like their wrists are straight out, not angled and the thumb crossovers are very smooth. take care, DaveT
