Thanks man! I was stoked on how it turned out. This was a very inexpensive wedding and I wanted to show people that you don’t need to shoot high end weddings to make a high-end wedding film.

That montage is a marvel ! Truly brings the best out of the all filmed sequences. Your guy did great, there's not a doubt. In your comment, you proved what should be the top priority in every directors' mind (whatever the film format, or style, or genre) : sound. We don't care about some yellow shift or some icy blue background... all this is party lighting, it's a moment when everything can happen (and happens), it's emotions we focuse on. But if we can't hear the stars-of-the-show and/or we can't understand what they mean, what good is it to keep on watching ? And most creators concentrate way too much on image-related topics, but not enough (if not not-at-all, sometimes) on sound and quality of voice texture. For a sequence I had to film in a tiny corner of a Parisian restaurant, I found myself trapped : low ceiling so no heigth, vast window pane to my right with to space to play with, restaurant room and bar counter to my left, toilets at the back, structure pillar behind my camera spot. And there was no way we could have filmed this some place else, then we had to accomodate to daily customers, being forced to only use the tiny space allowed to me and my two talents. So I took my wireless bodypack + lavalier microphone, and did some DIY : ran the cable above the talent's ear opposite to camera, hid the capsule in the hairlocks, placed the bodypack on the chair stuck between the actress bum and the wood armrest, took a deep breath and ran a test. Perfect sound, with warmth and richness ! Then my talent costume was free of visible gear, and my frame too... all my freedom was given back to me thanks to this trick. Bonus, with the actress having a good laugh at my techniques and tweakings. She ultimately said I was the guy to call when things were going wrong, that I could always manage something efficient for zero expense. This is where I get my pride from, such comments. Then I did it again for weddings and interviews. Believe me, it works and the folks around will give you credits for making miracles out of nothing... then making them look and sound amazing, when everything was supposed to ruin the final result. No matter what it takes, only the final result counts : the effect on our customers. Your BTS are so great and full of crucial tips/reminders, keep them coming. Thank you !

Why is no one talking about the biggest takeaway from this video? That darkly lit church would have sunk my heart and I probably would have quit that project. But you pulled it is off spectacularly with three apsc cameras. First of all, you are courageous. Second, your editor was good at his job. The footage shows dark smudges of shadows and overblown highlights but ultimately it is the story-telling that matters. If the final product is good small things like details in shadows and highlights don't really matter. The moral of the story: we all don't have to lust for full frame, instead learn to tell a good visual story. Thanks for the upload.

We’ve actually talked a lot about how to pull this off. We wouldn’t want to just have people staring at someone editing so it would have to be a different type of film. We are deathly gonna do this in the future we just need to think about how to do it in an interesting way. Love the suggestion though. - Jay

In my case, if I'm applying the Warp Stabilisation effect but the footage still obviously looks warping, definitely I'll undo it. But this video is still a masterpiece tbh! I learn a lot from this :D

Been a few mentions of the mic being "hot" on the live streams lately but watching Jason in action here, I think he just has a big bold manly voice! Jason man, you need to take a step back from Microphones and allow that voice to shine!

Thoughts on the core swx torch lights? I have 3 but, not sure how well they'll work. Everyone swears by them...
@WeddingFilmSchool3 жыл бұрын
I like them and use them as a 2nd or 3rd light. They need to be much closer to the subject than I would like though. For example I usually need to put those on the corner of a dance floor where as I can put something like the practilite or good VL lights in the corner of the room. If you've got the budget the practilite is the move, and we can get you 25% off at the kihnotenik website with the code WFS25. And we all swear by those lights before they even sponsored us! - Bobby

I think they’re the best cheap light out there. It’s what we get started with when buying lights. There are specifics that I don’t like about them though. Mainly, they are essentially a flood light. I hate the way they flare. Buy at first but upgrade when you can. -Jared
