I am a big fan of your BTS cause I learn more than watching tutorial videos. BTS are real world examples of what's going on during the wedding and the thought process of the film maker, the challenges they face from lighting conditions to cluttered rooms, their camera movements, when to switch from gimbal to handheld. I love these guys

Great video!!! I mm retired and have started to film conferences, seminars and meetings using a 4 camera setup as a solo. Learned the craft by doing numerous of sessions and learned from my misstakes and now feel confident in what I am doing. Besides learning some valuable tricks ( splitting the signal from the mixer into my Zoom H6 ) I was deeply taken by the fact that I am doing the things more or less the same as you proving I am on the right track. I also recognize the feeling that after a succsessful shoot you most remember the misstakes, but still is proud of mission accomplished. Many thanks for the video that was very important and valuable for me. /Retired DP manager loving filmmaking

Great video! I filmed my sons wedding using a BMPCC 6K and a DJI RS2. Set it to raw and auto white balance and used a focus wheel. The RS2 does the flip down handle thing as well. Nice about BMPCC is that I use DR for post and can adjust any white balance.

This is going to be in a list of a few of the most valuable videos to me for this year as I'm shooting a friends wedding (lockdown depending) this year. I'm mainly a photog for music events, but have background in video and editing from previous work ten years ago and still keep warm with the technologies, but shooting and directing is something I've not done since college because Event Photography feels very natural for me. @Wedding Film School clever move ! And a good warning about the use of those post-production tools. I noticed "cloning" of some image edges when using a similar function for sequences filmed aboard cars... taking me to, ultimately, not using this function at all and purposely converting the sequence into a bumpy style of ride. How goofy ! I can't wait to test the gyroscopic solution Sony is now proposing for their last cameras. A DP friend of mine had a go at it and said it to be just amazing. Which is just pure logic. When digital post-prod functions are only applied mathematics, with all the glitches we can imagine ! Thank you for this long tutorial, packed with many good things and reminders to consider and keep in mind. PS : this is probably the ugliest light set and interior architecture I've seen in/for a church... and you've made the best possible use of it !

I might be the minority here but I’ve shot nothing but solo wedding videos and until today, have never watched someone else’s solo wedding shooting process. This is a great representation. I was super relieved to see my years of trial and error landed me somewhere in the ballpark of what to do and what not to do! That being said, QUESTION: A video specifically on wedding video audio; sound boards, working with DJs for audio, quarter inch out, line mics, splitting, etc. Would be super helpful if you guys haven’t done a video on that already! I feel like perfecting audio is the final frontier for wedding videographers and needs major recognition!!

@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you want to make! We do it both ways depending on the edit. I can tell the difference between 24 and 60 and I don’t think it’s that hard to switch so I often switch for speeches and anything I KNOW I want normal speed. That’s being said, many many wedding filmmakers shoot 60 ALL DAY, and that’s ok too. 60 takes more storage and battery, so that’s one thing to keep in mind. Def personal preference here for the most part though. - Jay

Is there a reason you didn't light the ceremony? I know it's not common, but it was a dimly lit room and you had the lights to do so. Just curious because I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this for hotel night shoots.
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Jared may pop in here and share his thoughts as he was the one shooting this but in my opinion, this wasn't a dimly lit ceremony. I mean sure it was darker than most but it wasn't too low of light on the parts that mattered. Everything on the stage had ample lighting, I mean definitely a bit different of a look but certainly still good looking. Maybe the aisle could have used a bit of fill light but that's hard to do depending on the setup of the ceremony and not blasting guests with a light. Plus, most of the important stuff is happening on stage. I've lit a ceremony probably 3 or less times in 16 years because they were essentially candlelit and I would not be able to use any of the footage without some lights. - Bobby
@Scriptshepherd
@Scriptshepherd 2 жыл бұрын
@@WeddingFilmSchool Thanks for the reply! Maybe it just looked dark on the BTS camera - though Jared says it is at 24:40. But the finished film did come out great. I'm filming a wedding in a hotel at night in a few days, and concerned about the house lighting for the ceremony. Hypothetically, if you had unflattering warm/yellowish overhead house lighting, would you want to add your own key lights? Or would you just roll with the venue's lighting?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 2 жыл бұрын
If it's just a matter of light temperature then that can be accounted for in your white balance by utilizing kelvin temps and if your camera has it, color shift. If it's too dark or the lights are super direct and introduce terrible shadows then I would cross two lights on the front outside of the crowd hitting only the center of the stage and just enough to reduce the shadows or bring the skin exposure to the right level just on the bride and groom and officiant. But you'll need some decent lights, something like the aputure 60x, practilite 602, things like that that can throw really far so that you remain out of the way of the guests, and you'll want to match the color temperature of your lights to the venue lights.

@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 3 жыл бұрын
We'll need to shoot a video with the rig. The gimbal goes on a tripod to double as the wide shot. It's essentially a zyhiun crane quick adapter attached to a Manfrotto quick plate. This means I can pull off my wide shot to get gimbal work in a single second.

If A gimbal camera isn’t being used I'd usually just have it set up on the ground until I’m ready to move to a new position. I wouldn’t want to put it back in a bag. Back means slower access and potentially thrown off balance on the gimbal. Not sure if that answers your question

It depends on the shot. If I need it to have a little bit of tilt then I keep it on. The batteries are great on the Weebil S. Usually I turn it off for the ceremony because I can just lock it off and have it be a straightforward shot. -Jared

I like a low wide shot personally. it means the photographer is not going to get tripods in their close-ups. It also means I’m going to get a lot of ceiling which in this case looked incredible. I don’t like to show a lot of floor because it’s pretty boring in most cases

They are great cameras! We have def found they CAN overheat when you shoot 4K60 with IBIS and AF on but we have found if you just monitor it (it has a warning icon) and turn off the IBIS and AF when your not using it it’s very manageable. I personally have never had one overheat btw. - Jay

The new firmware essentially prevents them from overheating to the point of stopping the recording. You may get the indicator around 15 to 20 minutes of non-stop recording but it hasn’t been a problem for me. -Jared

@@WeddingFilmSchool Thanks for getting back to me. I see. I'm doing my first wedding in a couple months for a friend on a really low budget. I'll try to convince them into rentals for at least a one or two spare bodies. Btw Do you guys ever use speedboosters? Or just the Fringer adapter? What about syncing footage in post? Are timecode generators essential?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Running multiple cameras on your own at your first wedding can totally be done but it's a huge undertaking. I'd recommend dedicated that budget to hiring a second shooter with their own gear. I think that will help you out in many ways. I don't use speed boosters personally but I do use adapters to get canon lenses mounted to my sony cams (I shot canon for many years and still have some lenses I haven't transitioned) I don't use Autofocuse when adapted. I use FCPX for editing and it can audio sync without timecode so I just do that. check the editing tutorials on the channel like how to edit a wedding ceremony to see the sync in action! - Bobby

@@ronflores7 nice for you to have some help, as of me I have no choice, Id rather shoot it my self than to have someone who does not know what they are doing and will only do it for the money, that would end up me having not to use any of the shots.. I have three cameras, one as my main video camera which is FE the a6500 is mounted on the gimbal, and another FE camera as my stills only.. I just select my shots, I only offer wedding highlights so I do not need to film the whole event.. The only time I use two video cameras at the same time is If I want to angles.. but mostly I have my main on a monopod so that I can shoot stills.. as for gimbal I only select shots with it..

How do you deal with free-hand shakiness?
@WeddingFilmSchool
@WeddingFilmSchool 3 жыл бұрын
There's a combination of things that help with shakiness in this setup. Ibis, lens stabilization (if your lens has it) as well as tension from the strap, body placement, and knowing what shots are doable and which aren't. Plus the intention with shooting handheld is not to be as stable as a tripod, some movement is ok and feels natural - Bobby
