I'm Episcopalian in the US and always was told the wedding march isn't usually played in the church because it was written not to be taken seriously, and wasn't intended for a church, honestly I haven't heard it since the 1960s

@@califdad4 i believe that is "The Bridal Chorus from Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin", i wouldn't say it wasn't "serious", but that it was music for the Opera and somehow found its way in actual weddings; unlike many songs that were composed for actual liturgy.

Nothing as majestic as a pipe organ, even those with a small number of pipes and stops. The magic hands of the builder and the artistic hands of a magnificent artist bring the most heavenly sounds for inspiration to the soul and mind. Edit: From Virginia, USA, near Washington, DC. Many of our villages and cities bear the names in England from whence our early settlers came. Thanks for your music and church introductions Ben.

Love divine, all loves excelling. Sublime music about love and marriage by Mendelssohn, Widor and Pachelbel, played on a superb organ. As mighty oaks grow from small acorns, since Ben’s journey to Alvediston last summer, his journeys have grown increasingly entrancing with music, poetry and brilliant photography.

You've proved it beyond doubt, Ben - it's the Diapasons that make an incredible instrument! Not a single reed stop! Best Widor I ever heard, even with just the coupled pedals! Just by way of information, as is my usual contribution - sadly, the name 'Lover' (and it's pronunciation) originates from a typo spelling of 'Lower' Redlynch in 1876, when it became a separate parish (viewers may note that the church is still called 'St Mary's, Redlynch' - not Lover). More sadly, this sweet Wiltshire village typifies so many English villages - the village school (founded in 1839) closed in 2006; the Post Office (that became famous worldwide for it's Valentine's Day date-stamp) closed in 2008; the village shop closed; and so did the Pub. But the good news is that the community have stepped up - the parish council took over the school grounds (which are used for an annual Country Fayre, amongst other events; and the whole community raised the money to buy (and run) the school buildings. These are used now for the annual 'pop-up post office' that has given new life to 'The Most Romantic Village in the World' - and the celebration of Love in the village church. Michael x

What a delightful light & joyful excerpt of Vidor... like a perfect Victoria sponge... when so often it's played as a suet pudding. I like your Idea of a recital there. Thinking of Lover... reminded me of Bist Du Bei Mir which we chose for our wedding entrance Mar 3rd - 51years ago.... except the organist played the boring bit (& not the lovely slow march) which she murdered on a badly played early electronic organ. Only later found out it was a funeral piece🤣. Thanks for another super Video.
