My daughter is a wedding officiant. She married a couple. Two years later she married them again...to other people. They both divorced and both got married together to different partners THE SAME DAY with her officiating. Funnily enough, the new partners of the divorcees were actually married at one time (not by my daughter). Bizarro...She still laughs about it and the couples are still married.

Wow...that wouldn’t be a bad story for a movie if done well. I had a conversation with someone in a similar situation once - he had married his high school girlfriend, but they ended up divorcing amicably, still best friends, just no longer in love with each other. Met another couple married and divorced similarly, and they both remarried the people from that couple in one big wedding and live next door to each other. I still don’t know if that’s weird or absolutely genius, but hey, he seemed happy!

I can barely tolerate even "good" drunks at bars and the thought of spending my own money to let any of the several lushes in my family anywhere near booze at my hypothetical wedding makes my skin crawl. We had to drive 12 hours to my BIL's wedding. It was the only time the two families interacted. The Brides' siblings kept making jokes about their sister controlling everything; how such a control freak she was. etc. I thought, that' not a good sign. It wasn't. She didn't like his indigestion meds, so SHE scheduled him an appointment with a doctor- WITHOUT HIS PERMISSION. Turned out that was a good thing: his stomach had migrated into his rib cage, and yes she scheduled the surgery to get that repaired. She told him to get braces at 45 years old to straighten his teeth. and those are just the big things I remember. He filed for divorce 7 years later.

Everyone knew that her family had encouraged her to find an American sailor, marry him, and move the the U.S. We all thought it was a bad idea, but he was young, in "love", and a virgin. Sure enough, I get stationed in Iceland several years later and see him again. After about 8 years of marriage, they have 5 kids and he looks like a 40 yr old who has had all the life drained from him... She is twice the size she was and still barely speaks English, and was pregnant again. I never saw that man smile the entire time I was in Iceland.

Personal experience, I've never saw a marital ceremony end up well. The cost of it all puts the newlyweds in even greater debt than student loans. The groom is usually way too worried about how much it'll cost that they cannot enjoy anything about it. And the kind of bride who usually splurges on that thing tend to regret the decision after everything is over, because guess what? She wanted a fairytale wedding, with plenty of photos and movies about the ceremony itself, about the falling petals and about the marble gazebo in the grassy fields under the spring sun, and... It's over. They never wanted a husband, they never wanted commitment, all they wanted was a million-worth cinematographic wedding day and feel like a child princess. And she'll never have a moment like that again unless she dumps the idiot and marries another fool that can pay for another day like this.
@stadot14273 жыл бұрын

You can’t simplify all wedding ceremonies to fall under one blanket. Yes, some people splurge and go into immense debt, but many people don’t. Never understand wasting so much money on a single day. Same can be said for wedding dresses, over priced diamond engagement rings, over priced venues, etc . Personally when I got married we had a small ceremony no bridesmaids , he had no groomsmen, one witness a close friend. Very simple but beautiful dress that strangely I found at a designer resale store in almost perfect condition that fit almost perfectly with some simple alterations like length and dry cleaning I remember buying it for like 100 dollars when new it would have been thousands of dollars. He rented tux for cheaper as he had friend that worked in tux rental place and got him really good price cause we got married in less peak season. Last thing on wedding rings we bought them in a pawn shop and got beautiful rings at greatly reduced price. We drove up the coast for like 4 days and stayed in little motel near beach . Everything was simple and relaxed and pretty stress free. Everyone including us had a great time and would not have changed anything.

For the first one, how can the groom be “very lanky” if he’s almost foot shorter than the bride? Lanky means TALL and skinny, or at least tall and skinny in comparison to others around them. If the bride is 6 feet than the groom would be somewhat 5 feet? Then the bride has to be 7 feet in order for the groom to be tall enough to be considered lanky, but if that’s so the bride is way to tall to be not the one at the center of attention for everything everywhere.
@charles_capet3213 жыл бұрын
And also the Redditor was only focusing on the bride, didn’t say if the groom is also a kid or not, but seemed to imply that they were both kids, didn’t say if the groom is unhappy with the marriage either, but since the marriage is arranged, the groom may very well be miserable too, it’s not his fault that he is less attractive than the bride, yet the Redditor just focuses on the bride and says that for future marriages they need a face too face check with later brides, but not the grooms?

In a hypothetical world where I believe marriage is ever good in the first place, I definitely wouldn't marry someone unless we had very strong, successful communication and were already living as if married anyway for a while and both very happy and content about it. Yet I wouldn't engage in PDA, especially not at a wedding, because I've got sensory issues and when I'm overwhelmed (I've never been to a wedding but it seems extremely overwhelming especially if I was one of the people getting married) I can't handle touch at all. Even when I'm not overwhelmed I can be very shy and hesitant about touch... Idk that just bothered me

Just last week I flew 1100 miles to Texas for my cousin's wedding. Beautiful venue, in a small tourist town in the Texas hill country. The actual wedding site had a river just five feet behind the altar, with sun reflecting off the hills behind it. Beautiful ceremony, two people who have known each other nine years and loved each other at least five. After the ceremony, as everyone is slowly migrating up the hill to the reception, my 65-year-old mother (whose immediate and extended family has been amazingly caring and drama-free for her entire life) was talking about how weddings are always, without exception, so beautiful and wonderful. Her family is so decent and loving that she can barely imagine that events like these actually exist. On the other end of the scale, the groom's brother (and groomsman) has been married two and a half years now... to a wedding planner. I can imagine that more than a few horror stories were relayed during the planning of this last wedding.

The "fake wedding" might have actually been planned as a wedding originally but the groom ran off or cheated or something similar, but since some things were already booked/bought and couldn't be refunded they just turned it into a not-wedding-type party where they had some fun instead? I don't know, very few details to go on, but it sounds like that might be what happened based on what we were told. Especially since the bride was apparently a fan of the band in question - it'd make sense she'd book them for the party then in a fit of "screw my ex-fiancee, I'm going to do what makes me happy"

I did not hear it but from what I was told, one of the guest (parents friend, and a person whom I admire her looks cause she’s pretty) was having an argument with her boyfriend. They broke up soon after. But all I remember was seeing them walking away from the barn (which was where the wedding took place it was a farm wedding) and seeing them talking to each other when walking to my tent to sleep (most of the guest slept in tents.)

The first thing my future FIL said when he heard we had decided to do a simple ceremony the next month was "you should be marrying me instead, I'm a better provider" even though he was married with 2 grade-school age kids, so dunno how he thought that would work. Not to mention, he was more than twice my age, and not nice to me at all. Meh, I'm rid of that family, that's what matters.

Oh, I just remembered when my parents got married! I was 3 months old, and my mom's mother was holding me during the ceremony. When the officiant said to speak now or forever hold your piece, I screamed. My parents got divorced when I was about 12, and we don't talk to my mom's mother anymore because she tried to abduct me (weird story not applicable to this thread).

I don't get these big expensive weddings man. Give me a national park and a picnic reception and I'm good. The only thing you spend money on is the food and the booze.

The lady who tied up the dog should be in JAIL. The fuck is wrong with her? And the one with the bride and groom who both had boyfriends.. polyamory and open relationships are a thing and can be healthy relationship options as well. Obviously there are cases when it's not but that's true of any relationship.

If they paid for the food, they should take it or throw it away or donate it. The kitchen shouldn't take it back and re-sell it.

Because they have experience. Weddings are already prone to désastres between family drama, dubious planners and unforseen situations. Though, music is highly personal.

A clearly arranged marriage with an obviously underaged boy. And he feels bad for the possibly also underage girl... they are both screwed.

Cake smashing is such BS. Brides spends HOURS to look perfect not to mention how much getting makeup and hair done costs, especially if the people doing it come to the venue, then Groom ruins all of that effort for a laugh when it’s supposed to be a sweet gesture. Yeah, I’ve had that happen to me, after saying don’t do it, I was pissed.

The guy who got cheated on while deployed benefited from the divorce. His ex sounds like she crawled from the pits of hell. I wonder if she bleeds tar instead of blood.

I think anyone who hires a wedding planner clearly cares more about the wedding than the marriage
@FunSizeSpamberguesa3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on why you hire one. Wedding planners can be a fantastic way of keeping the couple's parents/families from interfering.
@stadot14273 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty sweeping statement. I could imagine someone (who can afford it!) hiring a wedding planner because they're too busy preparing for the marriage to do all the leg work for the wedding. I had a short engagement and barely even saw my then-fiancé between proposal and wedding. I worked full time, moved cities, was working through some stuff with my roommate, had premarital counseling, and even had to do my first dress fitting single-handedly! My Bachelorette party & bridal shower wer several states away and I had to road trip overnight to pick up my wedding dress from a state even further away. We skipped celebrating our birthdays and Valentine's Day because it was so busy. And this is besides all the actual wedding planning.

I'm surprised the drunkard that sang "My Way" was still breathing sometime after his wedding. Bad things tend to happen when someone does a Karaoke performance of that song, and those bad things are usually murder. it's a very infamous superstition in the Philippines, so much so that the song has been removed from Karaoke machines in Manila.

I knew my daughter's marriage would not last. He was a jerk and it poured rain. It didn't help that the groom's father wanted to get the ceremony over with with no pictures after because his young daughter had a soccer game that started an hour after the wedding was to start.

Cake smash, this is NOT funny. Spouse and I said no cake smash, a bit of light joking touch the nose tip with frosting was okay and we did that, but. One molecule of cake under power hitting my face-I aspirate food anyways (always have and have to be careful) and he would have been single right there. If one isn't comfortable and makes it known, it's not being whipped to oblige. The friends of that guy were total a-holes and he was THE A-HOLE for doing it. Glad she annulled it. If he couldn't listen on one small thing, what kind of thing would it be next time?
