A lady at my church was stood up at the alter twice before, so of course we wondered if the third groom would show up. He did. That should have killed the elephant in the room. But at the reception, the pastor did a prayer before the dinner and decided to thank God the groom showed up and that the other two grooms were tests of faith and thankfully the bride with faithful to God that He blessed her with a good man this time. Everyone was shocked it was brought up and when the prayer was over, the bride was clearly mortified even though she smiled and put a brave face on. They started going to another church after the wedding.

@NurturingTalents I think it was implied the pastor might've overstepped a few of the bride's boundaries. Maybe he thought using her misfortunes before as a soapbox to keep other members with his church was the best idea in case a few of them were having doubts. Nobody really wants to be the "Job" in any kind of way, least of all as simply a means to an end. Sure, "God giveth, & God taketh away", but nobody wants that broadcast to an entire congregation.

I'm mortified the pastor did this! I mean WHO says a public prayer about 2 runaway grooms! That's so embarrassing I don't blame them for not going back and I hope the pastor was told why. Don't get me wrong if I was a family member /friend of the bride I'd probably say a little prayer the night before the wedding for everything to go well, but I think that pastor has no filter

@NurturingTalents I don’t think she wanted to be reminded ON HER WEDDING DAY that she was gilted twice before and if she wanted to share that testimony, I feel it was hers to share, not the pastor’s. I don’t know if that was the only reason they left but I think most of everyone there thought it was wrong to bring up the past.

To be stood up once is terrible, to be stood up twice is horrendous. That first groom was an awful person for jilting her and that second groom was even worse because he would have known about the first one. Both of them would have known they did not want to go through with the marriage and each about it in a cruel way. Shame on the pair of them. Those two have lost out. It’s understandable you friend was mortified at what the pastor said. Anyway, I hope your friend is happy now, which she deserves to be.

Wedding photographer here. I've seen lifelong friendships dissolve before my eyes on multiple occasions. Fellas if you can't handle a toast pass on it. One stated according to Google his toast should be as long as the groom can keep it up. Looked at his watch for 2 seconds and raised his glass to toast. It was not well received. I felt I needed to hold some of the photos as the 300 guests were visibly upset. Jealous moms telling their daughters they look fat right before they walk down the aisle. Drunk wedding party members knocking over cakes. Fist fights during rehearsal so half the groomsmen have fresh shiners day of the wedding. Unfortunately sometimes weddings bring out the worst in people, even when were hoping for the best. PS: Please stop thinking your wedding will be perfect. There is no such thing. If at least one thing doesnt go wrong, I'd consider that odd. 📷♥️

I'm not married, been in very long term relationship, but I don't believe in marriage. Been to 3 weddings, some of the best party's I've ever been to, amazing good time. One of the weddings even had a live pop singer who I listened to in the early 90's, I didn't even realize he was singing on stage till after my g/'f told me in the hotel room. The whole time I was sitting down drinking and eating and thought it was the d.j. playing his music. LOL I'm there stuffing my face telling my g/f "Hey I love this song" and there the guy was singing on stage and I missed it all.

A co-worker of mine faced a somewhat similar situation. A few days before her wedding, her great-aunt passed away from pancreatic cancer they didn't even know she had. The way she explained it, they went ahead with both the funeral and wedding. They worked with the mortuary to schedule things around the wedding. Then they included some time for a remembrance of the relative. The thinking was, she had been looking forward to attending and wouldn't have wanted it to be canceled. From what I remember, it was all respectful and loving. So probably, it would depend upon the particular situation, how things would be handled. Basically, if you're lucky, a death doesn't have to be a disaster.

Fainting, and mass fainting is common at weddings. I knew a videographer, who had a collection of fainting videos. He voice overs on them, and he points out, it mostly men, but sometime woman. In mass fainting, the bride faints last, and it alwayd looks like, "Oh, I better roll with this." I'm googling this after this video.

Now that I'm thinking about it, "My wife likes sciencey stuff, so she wanted a special wedding ring. After giving up on Titanium rings, because the got scuffed up, she pick Tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbid because it's so hard, it almost never scratches, and it melts at three thousand degree. Also, it' almost heavy as gold, and not very chemically reactive. She figures the rings will last until our sun become a red giant, and swallows up the earth. Red stars are not very hot, so the entire Earth will burn away, except for tungsten, and carbon. The our rings will fall to the center of the sun. Our sun well collaspe into a white dwarf star, with the tungsten floating in it. The tungsten rings are cheap, and I've lost two already. My wife bought two more, and she figured I wouldn't lose andy more, if I had an extra. She bought her self another ring too. A nerdy guy she works with, liked the idea of having a forever ring, so my wife sold him our extras, and he switched them out for the platinium ones his wife picked out. She never figured it out. Still, she goes around rubbing her ring on things, and says, "That's why I got platinium, it superior, it never scratches. Her husband laughs. He sold the platinium rings to someone else, and bought a playstation.

Not so much at the wedding, but a little after it... I went with my at-the-time bf to his oldest brother's wedding. There was bad blood between the bride and his _other_ brother's wife. (Bride was jealous she wasn't married into the family "first," despite dating the groom for much longer than the sister-in-law dated her husband.) Pretty much everyone in that family hated the bride, always talking about what a bitch she was (and to be fair she definitely had her moments, but idk if she deserved the hate she got). Anyway. So the wedding was beautiful. It was a sweet ceremony. The groom cried when he said his vows as the bride looked awkwardly around like he was embarrassing her, then gave the driest, most insincere vows you could possibly imagine. As they're leaving the venue, we're all throwing birdseed (as you do), and I later come to find out that some of it got in the bride's eyes and she was crying about it the whole way home. Imagine my shock when the sister-in-law started celebrating how she "got her" while the rest of the family joined in on her laughing. Gotta say... I dodged a bullet considering I almost married into that family. Nice enough folks, but they were big fans of talking about people behind their backs... Namely the bride, of course! 😬

ER nurse here...wedding reception in Midwest. Groom standing outside with some guys and some drunks drove by and yelled, "You new wife is a fat b..ch!" The groom and guys hopped in their cars and chased the drunks down. They caused them 1st to wreck their car, then drug them out of the car and beat on them. The police had to intervene, and oddly the drunks "forgot" how to talk English before they got the ER. This made it a pain in the rear in the ER.

Oh yay, wedding stories? Here's what happened to my mom. Now her man proposed, yay everyone's excited. They'd been dating for about eight years, we're all like /finally/. So they pick a date, pick a venture, dresses; everything goes swimmingly. Now, the date's creeping in closer. My maternal family starts arriving from all over the eastern part of the country. But as we get more family in, he starts moving his shit out of the house he lived in with my mom. Until three days before the wedding, he cancels everything. He'd taken advantage of the situation, to get all his stuff out. clothes, appliances, even the goddamn rice cooker. Guys; that was the first time I heard my grandmother /swear/. I was 19 years old, scared my 5 foot grandma was going to up and murder this 6'1 man. And we already had over a dozen family members here! SO Couldn't get the money back, so my mom was all fuck it. Family reunion! Sad/best part is, a few months later the guy called my mom begging to come back. A year later, a bigger ring later mind you, they enloped, and are married to this day.

Okay. I was the one who caused the massive argument at the wedding but it was justified I promise! My brother in law's wedding (partner's brother) he had my partner and 2 other brothers as his groomsmen with 3 of his friends. Well at the dinner he thanked them by giving them each a personalized bottle of cognac. Sounds good right? Family were at one table, including a heavily pregnant me. 2 of the friend groomsmen demolished their bottles and thought noone would notice one of them throwing their coat over my partner's and his brother Roberts bottle, dancing for a bit before picking up his coat, both bottles and tried to leave. Yeah... He didn't get far and it almost caused a massive fight with the bride (we've never liked each other) as I was apparently ruining the day. 🤨

Seriously, what drives people to drink alcohol in public under any circumstances, much less during a wedding? I don't care how nervous you are, there's no way that drinking something that makes you lose the ability to determine if an action is stupid is even kinda of a good idea during important milestone events.

At the time my then best friend would marry the girl of his dreams, he discovered the lady had a serious love affair with another guy. He once told me she was very quiet, polite and sometimes as exciting as watching the crash of two baloons in slow motion. How wrong he was.

The stuttering best man speech story makes me feel better about my own best man speech. I made an Incredibles joke to the effect that my best friend's wife was the greatest good he was ever gonna get, and he already knew that so they were starting off well. Point is, my speech was SHORT.

My twin sister had a very small wedding in our parents backyard. It was actually really nice. It was catered, my grandfather (who is a pastor) officiated the wedding, and I was my sister’s MOH. And everything went perfect. Except that when I was asked to give my grandfather my sister’s wedding ring, I realized I had set it down inside and forgot it. I had to tell him that I didn’t have it in front of one hundred family and friends. It got even worse when I couldn’t find it inside. The two other bridesmaids and my mom all went searching for it for 25 minutes until we found it. My sister said it was hilarious and actually kept her from fainting from anxiety so all’s good lmao

That’s not even all. My stepdad’s mom, my Oma, was acting really strange. We knew she was addicted to opiates and assumed she was high and got really angry with her. Turns out she just had a really really bad UTI. Everyone felt bad for assuming she was high.

It's sad that if it's usually not a family member who's trying to upstage the bride and make themselves the center of attention because they're a raging narcissist or they just hate her for no reason, then it's usually one of the parents always trying to bring attention to themselves to piss off their ex-husband or wife, even though it's their kid's wedding day. Like y'all don't even care if the couple is happy as long as you're the center of attention or you can do something out of spite for your ex-wife or ex-husband, just to prove a fucking point. And it's really pathetic

I was at a buddy’s wedding a year(ish) ago. Ceremony’s already over and the newlyweds had already left, it was just family and friends mingling as staff began cleanup. Bride’s grandma fell and broke her ankle cause she missed a small step to the dessert area. Took a couple of us guests plus a couple employees of the wedding venue to lift her into the bed of the uncle’s pickup truck to take her to the hospital. As far as I know she was ok, I never heard about it once I left.

My best man flew in to Cali from NY and came to my wedding drunk and high, came to the reception drunker, half-assed the best man speech and insulted me, and then took a ride back to the hotel with my parents and had to stop on the 101 in downtown San Jose to throw up. We don’t speak much anymore lol.

My dad's second wedding. He and his new misses were on opposite ends of the class spectrum, he was a drug addicted general laborer, with 5 dollars to his name while she was a full out catholic nut with rich agricutural owning parents. He wanted to get high w his buddies and have a relaxing backyard wedding before going paintballing the same day w said buddies, which would have probably cost like $500 bucks. She wanted a full out 'rent a cathedral for a day' wedding, probably around $35k or $55k. Instead they rented a private yaught (like $1,000 for the day to rent it), he took off afterwards for a fishing trip immediately afterwards, and she spent the night with one of the catering staff.
