One of my business clients asked me to make him a sword. It was a gift to his son-in-law on his wedding day. I had a lot of fun making it and was happy with how it turned out. My good friend, Jesse Hemphill, forged the guard for me from pieces of tools belonging to both of the grooms grandfathers. Blade is W2 with a hand ground fuller.

+nickwoo2 Thanks, Nick. I think it bent when it fell off the bar and into the quench. Clamping it during the tempering process really worked well.

Absolutely love it! One question. I noticed you using a magnet on the blocks to check to see if the blade is hot enough to harden when quenched. However, you took the blade in the building 2-3 times when heating it for the quench - why?

Wow Tim, that's gonna make for such an incredible wedding gift! It turned out beautifully brother! :) But man, hah, my heart about sunk watching the blade slip off it's handle during the quench, but thankfully it looks like it didn't give ya much trouble. It's really cool how you were able to incorporate all those materials from the grandfather's old tools into the guard and handle, brilliant idea! Where you able to achive any hamon action like we were talking about? I couldn't tell from the vid if the blade was clayed up or not, but it sure looked like it had some nice differential hardening by looking at the way the scale looked after the quench nonetheless. I'll deffinitely have to make sure and remember to send you some 1500 grit silicon carbide powder when I ship out one of your knives. Man I'm my own worst enemy at trying to get things "perfect", so I end up stalling and taking forever to finish certain blades.. I really, really appreciate your patience! Hey, I was wondering whatever came to be with that TW-90 grinder that was donated to you guys. I remember thinking, how on earth are they gonna set that up at Bamba Forge?! lol Man I bet that it's a joy to use, especially in your nice new shop! :) I also hope to see some good footage from you and Jesse at Bamba forge in your next vid! I've seen a number of shorter clips and pictures on FB from both of you guys but I hope to see more of how everything is comming together over there. I saw that picture of that bucket filled with a BUNCH of the same model of knife, and man I was blown away! I feel so lazy after seeing all those! lol Anyway, as always it's real good to see a new vid from ya. Much Grace be with you, you're soo willing to help out your fellow "man", including myself! You're a real blessing to so many people , Tim. Take care, and I hope to chat with ya later man. :)

+lsubslimed Hi Paul - Thanks so much for your kind words, buddy. I appreciate them very much as always. I was happy with how the sword turned out. The hamon was not as distinct as I would have liked it to be... due to the new "drop from the sky" technique I used to quench it. haha I will be getting some footage of our Bamba trip up as soon as possible. I have some really good footage of Jesse working with the guys. The grinder that was donated is a Wilmont. It arrived in Uganda with some other stuff we shipped. I opened the box and checked that everything is there. Jesse and I decided not to put it together yet until they have a lockable shop. We will be building that between now and the end of the year. I hope that you had a great weekend and that things are going well for you, buddy!

you hand forged the guard, but you cut the blade with a saw and ground it to shape...that's lazy
@SugarcreekForge
@SugarcreekForge 5 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate how it might seem that way to you. You might have missed in the video, but I didn't hand forge the guard. My friend Jesse Hempill forged the billet for me. I also cut and ground that as well. Not because I am lazy, but because I had a deadline and very little margin for error. I love to forge and I love to make stock removal knives too. I do hope that I become super good at forging big blades to shape - that would be very cool.
