My issue is more family not friends I'm one of 5 kids and my fiancé is one of 4 plus I have a ton of female cousins that I'm close with. I'm not even asking friends and I already may have way too large of a bridal party.

This was really helpful, thanks. I have three picked but been worried about which of my other closer friends to ask. I hadn't thought of inviting some to the bachelorette, but not to be in the bridal party. I was thinking it was all or nothing. However, I would not ask family, because my family is not close, and I'm also not close with my fiancé's sisters; that would be really uncomfortable for me. I'd rather have my close friends around me at that time, who will help me relax and plan the kind of fun I really want to have, not what people who don't know me well would plan for me.

*About The Young Bridesmaids * Just select the responsible ones! I was a bridesmaid at 12 years old for my uncle’s wedding, and I helped out with most of the bridesmaid duties. Really depends on the person. (I helped the bride with jewelry, my bridesmaid dress, wedding theme, decor, etc.)

Hey Christina! There's no easy answer, but honesty helps. You don't need to make up excuses or justify your reasoning. They might be feeling vulnerable at that moment but the most important thing is to reaffirm how much their friendship DOES mean to you and make sure you show them by your actions!

Would you Recommend having a Sibling in the Bridal Group that has Usually been the Culprit of your Sibling Rivalry? Like I have a Younger Sister that Often has Moods and our Relationship Oscillates between being Close and Me having to Forgive her for this and for that, Nothing Major, but I've often had to Forgive her for her saying this and doing that, being available and then Shutting the whole world out...And I've finally concluded that she treats me the way she does because she's Unhappy with the way her Life has turned out and she Can't be Genuinely Happy for Anyone else... If it's Depression she genuinely suffers from, then there's Absolutely Nothing she's tried to do about it in 30 years...And I've Often been there for Her, I Can't Say the Same about Her however...She's Often Left me High and Dry when I Needed her the Most...Would it be Common Courtesy for me to include her in my Bridal Group or Should I save myself the Drama and Eye Rolls and Sighs which she often does in my Presence??

Hey Claire! It’s hard to say not knowing the particulars of your situation, but I am always one to support unity and reconciliation in family relationships. Family is with you for life and if you exclude your sister, you run the risk of seriously damaging that relationship. Now, if you feel like she would turn your wedding day into a circus if you included her or if she is abusive to you or if she would be such a distraction then maybe you could consider an alternative option.

Me and my partner are not including family in our bridal party. Yeah, family might be constantly in your life, but on your day you want people who uplift you and support you marriage. That does not matter if you have not seen them in a year if you know they will make your day special then ask them. That is my opinion.

I don’t know, I’ve been estranged from most of my family for about 11 years. I did ask my sister to be in the wedding and she accepted, but it takes her weeks to answer messages from me. She caters to my mother who has always been very abusive to me and my mother has to come to the wedding for my sister to be in the wedding. She has declined invitations to visit before the wedding and usually just ignores my messages. I really regret asking her to be a bridesmaid. I really regret telling her it would be OK to bring our mother to my wedding in spite of my past abuse. And I really regret asking her when she’s obviously very disinterested in me and my wedding. I am heavily contemplating telling her that maybe it’s not a good idea, what, with the family estrangement and factions.

If you have non-supportive friends or family, make sure you understand why they're not supportive. Maybe they're just being biased, or have unjustified reasons for not being supportive - for example, maybe you and your fiancé are different races and the unsupportive people are racist or prejudice. In which case, those are unsupportive people you don't need at your wedding. However, it's also important to consider any possible valid reasons they may have for not being supportive of your relationship. Do they see red flags that you don't see? Do they see huge deal-breakers you're trying to block out? If that's the case, maybe you shouldn't be marrying this person to begin with... or, at the very least, maybe give it some time before you marry them. Just saying.
