MORE TIPS I THOUGHT OF AFTER FILMING: -book your dress cleaning before the wedding. i did it after & my dress has been really delayed in being cleaned/mended as a result. i still don't have it back in my possession & it's been 8 months! lol -if you have a dress that needs to be bustled, LEARN HOW TO DO IT IRL! we were told how to do it before, but on the actual day i had to have like 5 girls help because no one could figure it out LOL -ASK people in your family if they want to be involved in your planning. some people may not & some people may be eagerly waiting to help! i delegated certain things to certain people like "what band genre should we have?" "what do you think we should serve for food since it'll be summer?" etc. -hand out tips/gratuity yourselves in envelopes at the end of the night if you can. it gave us a chance to talk to the vendors & thank them for everything in person :) so much of wedding planning is done over email, phone calls, etc. it's good to do that on the day if you can

Thank you so much for including to “enjoy your engagement for as long as you want.” I got engaged Valentine’s Day last year and I kind of put this pressure on myself to have a date set and start planning within a year, now a years coming up and we aren’t in a position to set a date or plan yet so I really needed this reminder to just enjoy being engaged and not turn it into something with a lot of pressure to rush into. ❤

I know that the transportation situation was obviously horrible to happen but I do want to say THANK YOU for sharing this! So many people talk about their weddings as if they are the perfect, incident free day that it’s literally made me embarrassed to think about parts of my wedding day as if we failed planning somehow lol. We did a micro wedding with just very close friends and immediate family and the coordinator for the service we used was AWFUL and late and didn’t direct people the right way in the park we got married in. I’m still so embarrassed about it BUT I try to remember that no one but us probably thinks about that to this day lol and all of our guests just think about the ceremony and our reception dinner. Thank you again for sharing and normalizing that sometimes there is slight chaos 😅
@meghanhughes Жыл бұрын
absolutely! it’s important for people to know the flops! you’re throwing an event with a lot of moving parts & it’s not realistic to expect everything to go absolutely perfect in every area! you can shoot for that of course, but i feel good sharing what happened because a similar situation actually happened at my sister in law’s wedding too! shuttle buses hate country roads apparently lol

Honestly you're the first person I've seen on youtube to state that a wedding is not just for the couple and girl, I so agree!!! My husband is british and I'm italian, we live in England but got married in Italy after being together for like 8 years, and really our top 1 priority was to throw a great party where both our families could spend time together, as they never do. I think the general advice still stands of "don't feel pressured to do things you hate just because someone suggested them" but at the same time it would be so inconsiderate to not even think of your family's wishes! (esp if you have families who are generous enough to contribute financially to the day, which was our case). Our wedding turned out exactly as we wanted it PRECISELY because we tried to plan it so that everyone would enjoy it, and I wouldn't change a thing

Loved this video! As someone who was married in late May 2022, it feels so affirming and cathartic to hear about what didn’t go well-it is hard to get those things out of your head. At the same time, we hosted huge events and got MARRIED and it was joyful and wonderful! Planning these things is also sometimes hard because everything is so individual (and it isn’t always easy to know what you will like even if you think hard about it and get advice). For example, our first look and staying together the night before the wedding was not something I ever imagined doing, but it was one of the BEST decisions we made. You did the opposite option and it was something you LOVED. And there is no hard and fast rule for discovering which is the best option for you! But both can be great! Weddings are wild! Congrats and thank you for this!

You look amazing in this video! Kind of related to your guest list regret, I saw a tik tok recently that said it would be nice to allow single adults the option to bring a plus one to a wedding, like a best friend/close sibling or cousin of theirs etc. Obviously I understand the cost restraints and the added burden of that, but I really do like that idea as it gives single people the opportunity to also have a friend/someone they're close with at a wedding and not making them feel like the odd ones out at a wedding if they don't have a significant other to bring. Just thought it was an interesting perspective and as a perpetually single gal, I would really appreciate if a friend did that for me when inviting me to a wedding.
@meghanhughes Жыл бұрын
interesting idea but expensive af if everyone takes you up on it! guest list stuff is so hard just cuz you don't know who ACTUALLY is gonna come, so it's hard to tell everyone that ahead then later be like damn... lol a friend of mine asked she could bring her brother instead of her boyfriend cuz her bf couldn't come & she didn't want to come alone so we said yeah! but i think for all our single friends who came we made the right decision for them coming alone. it actually encouraged people to hang together a lot more than if they were coupled off! :)
@mariahgeiger-williams9230 Жыл бұрын
Now that I have actually been to my wedding, I don’t know how much I would have minded this in the end, but when I was planning I had a strict “no randos” policy. We did a LOT of considering others’ preferences and comfort and for this I had to prioritize myself (not to mention the cost). I think getting married isn’t like a regular party-it felt really vulnerable and really ‘joining of two families’ oriented. I didn’t want anyone there that I didn’t know. It was already a huge crowd without my friend from college bringing their roommate or whatever. We did extend plus ones to people who wouldn’t know very many people at the wedding, single or not, but none of them took us up on it if they didn’t have an obvious person to bring.

So this video kind of solidified in mind to do something the exact opposite of what you did. And that would be not seeing my groom until walking down the isle. I don’t want to do a first look and I want him to see me in my dress for the first time when I walk down the isle but I do want to spend at least the entire morning with him and as much time as possible with him before the ceremony. The reason being is that my mom has late stage Alzheimer’s and will not be able to attend the wedding in any way shape or form (she may not even be alive when it happens either). So I’m going to be an absolute disaster on my wedding day. I already cry when I think about her not being there and he is the only person who can get me in the right headspace when this happens. I know I will need to lean on him as much as possible that day. I think if my mother weren’t sick I would have done the same thing you had done and had planned to do that since as long as I can remember. But that dynamic has completely changed and I’m going to need his support so much during that day. And I think I would have lost my marbles if they had played shake it off. But if they had played no body no crime? I’d be jamming.

I feel those regrets! We had 200+ people on our list (including kids and a few vendors) and only 125 or so actually said yes. I guess with the backlog of weddings people we’re overbooked, or Covid-cautious, or couldn’t afford to attend…but I was shocked (and a bit disappointed) in that. And we had a 150 adult guest minimum for our room so we paid 50% of the plate cost per empty seat! Sucked. So many other regrets mostly with not being clear with my florist/planner about my decor vision. Wasn’t awful…but some key details really fell through :(.
@meghanhughes Жыл бұрын
DUDE THIS WAS US! we invited around 220 & so much of finley's extended family didn't come because of travel, covid, etc. we also had a ton of west coast people who couldn't make the trip because of summer plans/cost of travel cuz flights were insanely expensive at the time. 8 covid cancellations last minute... it was dark. we were contracted to pay for 152 plates & only had 117 at reception so just sooooo much $ wasted on catering. we kept/froze all the leftovers, but i think my in laws ended up just getting rid of it after a few days since it was all in their freezer lol... flop! i had food waste so i was personally full of regret on that inaccurate guest count sitch
@Megmeg123 Жыл бұрын
Wow such a similar situation!!! Weird!! Lol. Maybe more common than I would have thought? But ya it’s rough. I guess I just thought more people would be like FUCK YA! WEDDING! WOOOO!! lol…just so many more “no’s” than I’d ever thought we’d get. I don’t blame people, but clearly my judgement was so off haha. Thank god we had only ONE Covid cancellation or I’d have been a basket case lol. Hindsight man…
