Jason, I completely agree with you. As a wedding DJ in Germany, I spend a lot of time with the couples beforehand. My recommendation is also that the couple needs to be on the dance floor to encourage their guests to join. There are exceptions, but generally, this is crucial for a great party where everyone dances.

Had this great photographer taking a couple of the dancefloor 5 minutes after opening the dancefloor, it immediately crumbled the dancefloor, I actually always talk to the photographer now and ask them not to do that for that reason!

Correct. Especially at those barn, weddings where they have cornhole and stuff outside. Your guest will follow you!
