Because 1980-1981 was bland and boring, 1982-1984 was basically The Eddie Murphy Show, 1984-1985 seemed to cater to an older audience while making fun of the nascent days of MTV, 1985-1986 was...weird, and 1986 to 1989 was SNL going back to normal (or about as normal as they can get it).
