I think Jenna did an excellent job but I fail to see much connection to the original. The original show was a sorta campy dark comedy chock full of one liners. I enjoyed the original and I though it was quite funny. This show, however, is far more of a dark drama that is leavened with a bit of comedy. The tone is very different and allows for much more character development. While the premise is clearly built upon the original, I think this new show benefits from not trying to be too much like the original. They are both good but they are distinctly different. I can certainly see how Jenna's portrayal of this new Wednesday is based on the stoic original, but we get MUCH more of a view into her persona and develop of much keener insight into her view of the world. She is much more of a real 3 dimensional person in the new version whereas in the original she was kind of a 2 dimensional character with one liners. That's how I see it anyways.

Wendy Law made a video breaking all of this down and analyzing the clip of Jenna playing vs what you see hearing that's worth checking out. Even though Jenna is not the one you are hearing play this song, she did a pretty good job of looking the part.

Fun facts: Jenna Ortega learned how to play the cello just two months before filming Wednesday. She also learned fencing, German, boxing and archery for the role. On top of all that, she choreographed the now-famous Wednesday dance number.

Watched a couple episodes. Its a really well done, darker, creepier version of Harry Potter with a female lead. Character development and acting is good. The direction and costumes are really great too. Lotsa fun. Covering Paint it Black on a cello!!?!?! absolutely brilliant.

I really, really don't get the Harry Potter comparison lol it's not like JK Rowling invented the "school for powered people" genre. Heck, this has more in common with the Ghoul School from Scooby-Doo Doo than it does to Harry Potter.

The issue I have with the dance, is that dancing doesn't really feel like a form of expression fitting her character. It's outwardly expressive, deeply social and always to someone else's tune. Now the Chello solo fits perfectly and imho is the better variant.

I thought this series was so true to the Addams Family motif! I found it truly impressive! And to have Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the movies, direct and star in this, helped keep it true to form. Delightfully dark, and yet extremely principled, true art. Catherine Zeta-Jones wasn't quite as dark as Angelica Huston or Carolyn Jones, (perhaps because she's too beautiful), as Morticia, but still a stellar performance. The plot twists were particularly artful and deft. Bravo! And the blend of music, superb! A Hogwarts for the disturbed or tormented.
