This is all it took for me. About 4 yrs ago i seen a video similar this. I said i could do this. I mad some calls, took some classes and got a foster license and approved home assessment. It took over a year to be matched with the right kid. In December of 2017 i officially adopted my son Garrett he's now almost 18. And on the 17 th of may 2019 i am going to court to officially adopt a brother sibling set 14 and 15.. its hard at times but well worth it to get 3 young men out of the system and into a house they can call they're own.

Near When My first wife died - My secretary and her Husband were in trouble because both were really sick and both had been foster kids. They had three kids - no family - a few friends. Because they were in financial Trouble - I brought the whole family into my home - now that MY 8 kids were in college or grown. ANd as a single male - one day I became legal Guardian for three children. (WHat a legal headache that was). A really nice woman really took me through the process that the court even opposed for a time. AND now I had 3 future Doctors to put through School. I never looked back - the worst day of my life was when I became too old (I am 83 now) to take in any more. I was lucky that I had the wherewithal to put ALL of them through College - and they were my kids period - regardless of their status. THe lady at child services knew that - and was fab through the next group and the next group - finally totaling 18 . Eventually I was on first name basis with the Judge. And I now have 78 Grandchildren most of whom have taken another child in from the SYSTEM. I may not be as rich as I could have been monetarily - but you do not get richer than me otherwise

My wife and I have adopted two sets of sibling pairs. The youngest (and only girl) came into our home as an infant and is about to turn eight. They are such a blessing to our family. We are older parents. I have grandchildren that match my four adopted kids in age and they are all best friends, like bestie cousins. ❤️

@Thommadura 3 жыл бұрын
@@maureenchurchill2689 Having had 18 foster, adopted, guardian children - I wish it were that easy. This case is only two - what if there were Five?(Yup - I did it = could you) There are simply not enough people prepared to take one into their family - much less more than that. IS it better if ONE gets a loving family than neither? Often- the people have never had children and really do not know how to do it (My wife and I had eight of our own before she died ). And it is also possible that siblings can be VERY different from each other as well as being otherwise "GOOD Kids". Then people are often not really ready for the actual financial obligation - which is Always larger than you think it will be. How do you deal with College? Religion or Lack Of. Even siblings have different levels of basic intelligence too. One of the worst days of my life was when I became too old to take in any more children - AND I took in primarily Teens and mostly boys - who are - for he most part - almost impossible to place. I was Lucky that I was able to put them ALL through school- all have advanced Degrees. But most do not have those resources. My first three were Guardian Children - AND I was Lucky enough to have a huge house for them. I would do it again in a second - but I Know LOTS of people who Would never be able to as well. What has always bothered me is that we deal with PETS better than we deal with Humans.

@@KindCountsDeb3773 Nice to say - But in reality it is virtually Impossible. WHat if there are 5 children from the Family? (Yup -Been there - did that) Would YOU have brought in 5 children who had watched their Parents and a sibling die in a house fire? I had 18 Guardian/Foster/Adopted kids - along with OUR 8 with my first wife - how many crazy people like me are out there. Would it be better that some of them get a family that NONE of them get one? What about teen MALE foster kids - they are ALWAYS available - nobody wants them. WE treat PETS better and represent them better than real Human Children. Did you take in any? Have you helped others to do so? Have you taught your children to do so? What about children taken from their families because of abuse. Remember - they don't trust adults at all. OR - they may actually LOVE their real parents in spite of the abuse. Some need to be held - some don't want you to touch them. Worse - more are fully emancipated the DAY they turn 18 - no place to go - no support. More of them end up homeless than any other group. No real chance for a higher education - they don't even have a room to live in. But they are no longer part of the "system"- they are a "Success".

@ShariSez1 I wonder why you're so aggressive towards someone just for wishing the best for these two, she obviously believes in God and that they've been blessed and that they know the good feeling she has. Wether you believe it or not isn't the issue, wether her belief in God is right or wrong isn't the issue either.... The issue is from her perspective she was wishing them the best she believes in. Wether it's god, karma or good luck it's a good wish, let's just be happy these two kids are together, safe, protected and hopefully happy and loved. All good thoughts.

On a different but related topic, if you have children and especially if you have a very small extended family, or none at all, make sure you have a will, or at the very least have a conversation with a family member or friend or clergy person, designating a guardian in case you die or cannot care for your children. It's just a few moments of your time but it could make all the difference to your kids lives.

BUT .. he knew he was loved, he was family .. it was a labor of love for us, we would do it all over again .. and we raised 5 children to become beautiful adults and my Wife and I are now Grandma and Grandpa .. we are blessed beyond words

I remember my first day of 6th grade, I got called to the office and was surprised by two cops that took me to my family in an unknown place (to me). Later they took me and my 3 little sisters into foster care and met our foster parents... They had adopted 2 girls and the oldest (like me) mentioned that she too had two other little sisters at some point but that they took them away and were adopted off. I'd cuddle with my sister's every night praying that we wouldn't get separated as well...at the end of everything we got sent back home then split up amongst our parents, I lost my mom to stage 4 Cancer a few months ago and became homeless along with 1 of my other sisters. We now have a home thank god.

There are VERY, VERY few foster homes operated on love and kindness. The VAST and I mean VAST number of foster homes do it for the money! In many States it is a second income for a family. Of the more than 500 foster homes I am familiar with, I can name only THREE who are NOT doing it for the extra income and ALL three of those foster parents have opened bank accounts for the foster children and are depositing ALL the state/federal cash into the accounts for the kids.

My friend was in the foster care system for 13 years and went through 23 foster families and their adoptive home(4 years) turned out to be worse than his parents with abuse to the point that they lost their license. I understand - After having done so many times - at 83 I too am too old. But I do have a couple of "Kids" who at 18 were out of the system - had no place to go - and I still had the big house with all the empty bedrooms. YOU do not have to do that - but most districts have college funds for those with NO families - too.

😃❤🙏 Maybe look into adopting a 17 year old. Kids that are nearly adults still need someone to be there for their graduation, for conversations and council, and they want you to be there when they get married and when they have babies of their own.

@@Thommadura 😢❤🙏 Nearly adult kids that grow up in the system, often end up on the streets when foster homes o longer get a monthly amount to cover the expenses. There are enough stories on the internet, they get a big black garbage bag on their birthday and are shown the door. Nowhere to go to. These nearly adults still need a family, don't give upon your good intentions. Might well be a great blessing to you as well.

@@heidimisfeldt5685 Virtually every Child care agency has a place where you can offer Scholarships of various kinds to such people and YES - I know what happens although I kept all of MY kids in the house and put them through College too. Unfortunately, at 83, for some unknown reason I just cannot do all the things I could when I was younger and Child care agencies do not want to put children through a second loss of parents so I understand why I can no longer bring them in. Even though More than Half my High School Class are gone (I graduated high school at 12), AS Stephen Sondheim wrote - Good times and Bad Times, I've known them all and my dear, I'm Still HERE.

Check their upper lip for signs of FASD. Have a 3 week trial period to detect RAD (you'll know by the 3rd week). Tell them "no" regularly to check for CPTSD and Bipolar Disorder.

We have 3 wonderful children, a large home (5 bedrooms), and I am a stay at home mom. We very much want to foster and bring stability and love into children's lives, but we keep getting derailed. They require we both attend 8wks of classes together, but offer only 2 options (early evenings or weekends) but my husband doesn't get off work in time. We also cannot bring our children and they offer no childcare options. So he would have to take a lot of time off work (which is impossible for his position) and we would have to find and pay someone God knows how much to keep our kids while we go. I hate that the system makes it so hard!

Having had (I am now 83) over the years - 8 of my own (7 boys and a girl) 3 Guardian (2 Boys and a girl) - and 15 Foster/Adoptive children(2 girls) - I was lucky that I became a guardian before the Foster kids so the process was easier, and I took in whole families - and I had one absolutely great case worker. All of the Foster kids were Teenagers. AND I got them all through college too, But remember - they do not have to be Fostered completely - you can be a Big Brother/Sister - or you can sponsor a child for their education too. WHat I really hate is just how poorly our system treats real Human children when most treat their pets better - and they are legally protected better than Human children. Nobody wants teenage boys - too. I really hope you eventually find peace that you did what you could - though.

I saw a documentary once about how the system is extremely slow and the requirements for the adoption process were ridiculously excessive in foreign countries. It's sad because a lot of these were impoverished countries with very limited resources. And this makes their stay in those foster homes longer than it should, doing more damage. But I believe local adoption is easier, right?
