Ohh man, ive been tossing around the idea of using corn gluten meal as my primary PE and organic fert this spring for a while now. I've read those studies and haven't been convinced one way or the other yet. I am pretty sure soil moisture comes into play greatly when using this as a weed preventer...but I still haven't decided
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
I personally never had much luck. That isn’t to say it doesn’t work, but it’s use range may be more limited. You are correct that moisture plays an important roll. 1/2” at leas of water. The main issue I see is the amount needed for control (granular not liquid) and the amount of N that goes out. At one point the recommendation went to 40lbs per thousand… that exceeds the maximum allowable nitrogen rate in a number of states. The liquid is high use but more manageable. They isolated the protein/enzyme for inhibition

If I have lot of weeds and POA for first few years. Can I use max prodiamine in spring and pendamethlyn/Dithophyr in fall. Any harm in using multiple pre-emergents?

Yes, I intentionally left a number of options out, Meso being one just to do a spring seeding video with options. This fits into a different speciality category for me. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, just some additional options.

I used corn gluten for the first time last year on my back lawn. I ran products sent to me by Lawnbright and this was the active ingredient in their pre emergent weed control. I never saw any increase in weeds, but that's probably because I had been using prodiamine on it for the past 3 years and the grass is really thick. I'm using the same products on that lawn this year, so I'm interested to see what kind of weed growth I get this spring. And you have to put a LOT of it down, its the product they send the most of.
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
It’s a crazy high use rate and if your turf is strong and thick, you won’t get many weeds anyhow

Great video! Quick question, and I apologize if you have already spoken to it. Can you mix pre emergents? I have put out prodiamine at about 3/4 max rate and does a great job on grassy weeds, but could I come back with another pre emergent to stop other issues in my zoysia like dollar weed or sedge type weeds like green kyllinga? Thank you
@jperezgiz272 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing! I have a cool season lawn in the transition zone and was wondering if a combination of Prodiamine and say, Isoxaben, could be used in order to provide control over both types of weed issues. Of course following the label is key, but I’m curious if there would be increased risks of root pruning, etc. Would love to have John address this with the disclaimer, of course, to read the label properly.

have you had much experience on sandbur prevention between Pendamethalin, Dithiopyr, and Prodiamine? I know the pendalum works but its just nasty stuff to work with, Dithiopyr lists sandbur in the lable as a target, prodiamine does not, however i read various literature saying it does? No real clear answer. Thanks

I don’t personally. If stated on the label, there will either be suppression of control. Check which rate should be applied and go for it

Do you know of any way to ensure seed doesn’t move when planted on bare dirt. I’ve looked into tackifier and even mulch glue but can’t really find anything to really ensure the seed doesn’t move on a heavy slope of bare dirt if rain comes. Love the content 👍
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
If it’s very steep, you may need to do a burlap/cloth type cover to hold it. Otherwise, I’ve used liquid polymers that worked pretty well without much loss or run slice seeders and basically gone back over when there was germination to help stabilize.
