I never see anyone talk about a cool season lawn that is too thick. I don't mean thatch layer. Info on my lawn: grass is 20+ years old in oregon, mow every 4-5 days, feed and water well with very few weeds. It gets so thick its like walking on a sponge. I run the sunjoe to thin it out each year or 2. It pulls runners out 1 to 2 feet long. (maybe a bermuda or creeping fescue?) It would be great to hear from you or Pete, Alan or Ryan on this. I would rather not do a total burn and reno so going to overseed with some GCI Turf Type OG and GCI Cool Blue OG Grass Seed after the sunjoe each year.

If you’re ever near Sumner, bring a couple buckets to their water treatment plant. They turn their biosolids into a Milorganite type dry granular that’s FREE and 4.9-1.3-0.1. It’s a great way to spread pre-germinated seed.

Good Morning John.......I am overseeding this spring. You pre-mix product reminded of another video (Can't remember whose it was) of mixing my seed and peat moss into a wheel barrel. I then shovel the mixture into my peat moss spreader and spread the seed/peat moss over the yard. My soil test indicated that I have plenty of nitrate in my soil, but I am still thinking of giving it a little shot of GreenPop I got this year. Is this overkill? Once again....Thanks for all you do!! I will send before and after pics if I can remember.

Keep in mind this guy sells what you are asking about, so it is more likely than not that he will encourage you to use more of what he sells. Don’t blame him and I don’t think he is ill intended. How much can your soil or plant absorb? If adding to probably should micro dose, or “spoon feed” if you already have buildup stores in your soil as your test indicates.
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
@@wcbscout I agree with you. I light dose of fert at seeding will be beneficial and most definitely not full rates. Just get the root into the soil.
@wcbscout2 жыл бұрын
@@Lawncology seems logical for seeding to use smaller doses regardless of existing nitrogen levels, I wonder if microdosing or spoon feeding isn't more beneficial in most scenarios, less runoff, more frequency, kinda stable feeding whilst the growing period is stable, perhaps the concentration of nitrogen feeding doses should be adjusted to sort of follow the growing season "bell curves" we see in spring and fall. Your thoughts @Lawncology ?
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
@@wcbscout personally, I love spoon feeding. For personal lawns and not trying to scale a business like a professional lawn spraying service, I would take spoon feeding over any other form of fertilization available. If it’s your own space and you are dedicating the time and money to make it beautiful, there’s something to be said about examining it and being on it more often with beneficial materials. It’s the ability to see problems early, and like you said, contribute to an overall healthier environment

Wondering what the time frame should be for application or just follow up with Meso again as label says? Thanks in advance..

I haven’t done the follow up app myself. I believe there are recommendation for post seeding on the label. I would likely go to dimension rather than prodiamine for a later app. This way can at least clean up and crab grass that did emerge.

Hello, in spring of 2021 I detached my front yard very quickly with a garden rake and scattered some new seed. The yard looked great until we had a dry spell. The dry spell killed off a significant amount of new growth. This year (2022) I did a late winter overseeding knowing that the seed will stay dormant until the conditions are right for germination. I am in Cleveland Ohio in which we do get snow fall sometimes in early spring. Do you think doing a late winter overseeding will work? I look forward to your response. Thanks in advance.
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll be fine. Frost and heat spells are outside of control. There will always be some risk and while you may not get 100% germination, your lawn will benefit from the seed applied

happy Fat Tuesday! for me the hardest steps to get right(either spring or fall seeding) are the moisture levels and temps, as it is very difficult to compete with Mother Nature's whims and quick random swings ... last spring it seemed I just didn't have the luck to get a good consistent temperatures for a stretch long enough for KBG seed to be successful, and the watering went from where I couldn't do it enough to everything washing out from heavy abrupt rains - then the fall stayed hot and dry too late before it snapped cold(and still dry) so I didn't even try then(and *not* even for a KBG attempt again); but I have all that from then ready to go now, altho currently looking at muddy puddles until the soil can thaw deeper ...so keeping fingers crossed for luck, as that seed is still going out this season come hell or high water
@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
If the seed can stay where it’s put, it’s likely to germinate later when conditions improve. Can’t force a seed to pop, the sun to shine, or politicians to do what’s right 🤪

@@Lawncology last spring I tried 'Midnight' KBG over somewhat thin cheap KBG from the big box store that at least worked a few years ago, wanting 'better bluegrass' .....and yeah, they say Midnight is hard to start in the spring, and that you can't/don't need to overseed KBG - but still I never saw any results at all from the Midnight seed; very sad, as expensive and a lot of effort

@Lawncology2 жыл бұрын
not to be applied with fine fescue
@jeremykrentz96342 жыл бұрын
If you are just worried about crabgrass, you can skip the pre-emergent in the dense shade areas. Crab doesn’t like dense shade. I have a few areas that I need to re-seed each spring to keep thick (dense shade under two adjacent trees) and I just skip that spot when spreading the pre-emergent. I have had zero issues with this method. Hopefully that helps.
