@Steve S Omg, my street was ALL retired military at one time. They tried to out-do each other with their pristine lawns. One man even came to me when I was mowing (I despise mowing) and told me how to do it. "Turn the blades fast, and slow down with going forward!!!", he said. I had the forward speed on the fastest setting to get it done quicker. Now all retirees have passed away, and every single house is nothing but dirt and weeds. I have so many, many weeds. My dad would disown me if he saw this mess!

Hello Ron! Am from Marietta. I just applied the spectracide weed stop for lawn granules. The weather was nice. The lawn could get bright Sun and the applied for granules for about 10 continuous hours. But then it rained moderately heavy for about 30 mins! Am wondering if those 10 hours were sufficient for the weeds to soak in the poison from the granules. Any idea or suggestions please? FYI, I am a first time homeowner and new to DIY lawn maintenance. TIA
@RonHenry Жыл бұрын
For best results, you want to apply the granules to a wet lawn. The product works better as a post-emergent if you apply it that way. If applied to a dry lawn that gets rainfall later, it works more as a pre-emergent than post emergent.
@mousoomsinha720 Жыл бұрын
@@RonHenry yes I did follow that. The lawn was wet from an overnight rain. And the intent was actually to use it as a post emergent. My only concern was about the duration for which the product stayed on the lawn before it rained again. That was about 10 hours, with bright sun. And then it rained. I did find most of the weeds turned yellowish a couple of days later. But some are still green. It’s been about a week since I applied the granules. Not sure if the product is still active, and if the weeds will still require some more time to die out. Am a first time DIY user or these products, and lawn care itself. Hence having a bunch of questions :)
@ShainAndrews Жыл бұрын
@@mousoomsinha720 Well you learned your first lesson. Post emergent granules seldom work. In addition Spectracide is weak sauce, the granuels even more so. You can either re-apply to a wet lawn and try again or switch to an appropriate post emergent liquid application. You're in peak heat... you shouldn't have been doing anything 2 weeks ago, and certainly nothing two weeks from now. Read your labels... twice, three times.
@ccwnoob43932 жыл бұрын
is it good to apply after several days of no rain so the weeds are "thirstier"? will doing so then damage the grass since it would also be thirsty?
@RonHenry2 жыл бұрын
CCW Noob. The big thing is application rate. Your grass will tolerate spectracide as long as it's applied at the recommended rate and temperature. That means a single pass over weeds instead back and forth several times over the same spot. As long as you have a day without rate after application, the product will work well.

It took off and looked great. Then I don't know what happened but I have more crabgrass than grass. I have used this product but in the yellow label and it worked great. I live in Arizona and we're in the 105-111 degrees now and our lows are in the mid to upper 80's. I have a sprinkler system. It water's everyday at 5:00 am. I have been pulling the weeds by hand, so I have some bear spots. If I use this product can I put down grass seed after the first mowing? 🤔 Thank you for your time and any and all help is greatly appreciated.
@RonHenry2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for your loss Teri. If you sprayed this on your lawn today, I’d give it 3 days or so before mowing again. Assuming your lawn is Bermuda, grass seed shouldn’t be needed to fill in bare spots. If the area is shaded, it will be difficult to grow grass there.

Hi Ron! I'm a newbie to your channel. Just purchase this stuff today and applied it to my lawn. Can't wait to learn more things from your channel. In the next 2-3 days, I will mow, aerate, and apply grass seeds. Is this a good idea or too early?
@RonHenry Жыл бұрын
Everything sounds good other than the grass seeds part Dee. If you have cool season grass like rye, fescue or Kentucky bluegrass, it’s ok. For warm season grass like Bermuda or Zoysia, it’s usually unnecessary. Hope this helps. Appreciate you watching the content. 🙏😎

@Ron Henry I really don't know what type of grass I have, but I live in Memphis TN. My lawn is not full that's the reason I was considering putting seeds in. Thanks for your help. I watched your live last night and it was great! I have now subscribed. I want a beautiful lawn now and in the future. Blessings!!
@RonHenry Жыл бұрын
@@ispeaklife7 I appreciate it Dee. If you're in Memphis, it's probably warm season grass. In that case, you shouldn't need to use grass seed to get the lawn to thicken up.

Hey Ron, tried to order. I guess they can't deliver in TX. Any suggestions
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Amazon won't deliver to TX? Might have to make pilgrimage to Home Depot or Wally World and see if they have it in stock. I'm not sure why TX is so particular about certain herbicides.

What about if I just seeded a bermuda lawn?
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Raized By Nerdz. I wouldn't use this (or any herbicide) on newly seeded lawns. Let the lawn get established and take care of the weeds later. Just not worth the risk of damaging the new grass.

Any protection against crabgrass?
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Al. The product contains a herbicide called Quinclorac which works pretty well against crabgrass. The earlier in the season you catch the crabgrass the better. If you're looking for a product to kill young crabgrass AND prevent new growth, you'll need a pre-emergent like dithiopyr: ron-henry.com/dithiopyrliquid

Hey Ron, I came back from the beach to tons of weeds. Used Spectracide weed for lawns (blanket coating) and I have heard conflicting things from this video and Friday night chat with you and your guest - should I bag to remove the weeds to prevent more seeding or should I not bag to keep from removing the herbicide??? Thanks in advance!!!
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian. If the weeds covering the lawn, I would bag for the first mow after the Spectracide application. It's not like you'll create a huge problme if you don't but it makes sense to not blow any weed seeds all over the lawn. Also if you've not applied pre-emergent, you definitely want to that. Thanks again for watching.

Hi Ron, I have a rental property and I put granular per emergent down in late Feb. and the yard is full of weeds (bad). Can I put this down or to soon?
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
If the lawn has already greened up Timothy then you can use Spectracide. It's a great post-emergent and you can't beat the price at $10

Can I mow first and then apply? Or should I go with the apply first then wait a couple days. ?
@RonHenry2 жыл бұрын
Ideally you want more leaf on the weeds so there's more to cover with the herbicide. I would apply, then wait 2 days before mowing. You'll get better results.

Weed stop hose end bottle or spectracide concentrate in back pack sprayer more effective?

Hi Louis. If you have a large area to spray, I'd opt for the concentrate in a backpack sprayer. Also gives you more control over the dilution rate.

How does rain affect an application? It’s been raining every 1-3 days where I live and I feel like I’m trying to hit a moving target for the best time to treat my lawn.
@RonHenry2 жыл бұрын
You want there to be 4 hours of dry weather in the forecast before applying. It works best if it's able to dry on the leaves of the weeds.
