I have transitioned to mainly professional products because with effectiveness and how long / far those products typically go its usually an overall financial savings despite more up front costs. But for those who just want to go to the big box store route there are some effective products and methods that you continually highlight. Even myself if i am in a time crunch / need a product right then and there i still once in a while grab something from a big box store.

I believe that is purely marketing. Scotts Northern Turf Builder is marked safe for all grass types. I can't find any difference between "Northern" and "Southern" Turf Builder other than the amount of K, which Southern appears to have 6% more. If they're the same price I'd say buy the southern because it has more nutrient, but not because it "isn't made for your grass type".

Good morning SIR, I love your videos and have learned quite a bit! I have a question per the Scott’s seed & Fertilizer mini spreader. I have checked on both Home Depot and Lowe’s customer reviews and most are very negative towards the product. Most talk about the lower spreader mechanism falling apart and the axle is plastic and when the hopper is filled causing the axe to bow? I have an older Scott’s drop feeder but it does not seem to dispense larger size fertilizer, so this is reason I was looking at the midsize feeder. Have you had any issues with your feeder? Great videos my friend!

For anyone in the south, make sure the post-emergent weed killer you use is safe on your grass. The tips in this video are good, but Weed B-gon *should not used on St. Augustine* as well as some other turfs

Not true I got Saint Augustine grass and when you go to Home Depot or Lowe’s, they have the versions that are made for your grass. It will specifically say kills the weeds, not the grass and then it will specifically say what grass types it safe on and they would sell it in your local Home Depot made for your grass.
@cadetindell53655 ай бұрын
@@artieartya It's true that they do try to cater the products in local stores for the types of lawns in the area, but there are still products that can be harmful, especially to St. Augustine. I was just saying it's best practice to check what grasses any product you purchase is made for-especially if you're purchasing online. It's also best to check specifically the label or the manufacturer's website because a lot of big box stores aren't careful about their listings. My Home Depot listing for generic Weed B-Gon that is available in store that says it's "all purpose" for different types of lawns but, checking the label and Ortho's website, it expressly says "do not use on St. Augustine" Edit: Just checked Lowe's and they *do* have a version that is specifically for St. Augustine turfs-just goes to show that you have to be careful and make sure the products are made for your lawn

@@cadetindell5365 just read the labels. I’ve used these products a lot year-round year in and year out for my Saint Augustine grass and I’ve never had issue. Just read the label properly. @PrincessCutLawnCare5 ай бұрын
hi trevor, great question, the measurements are much different as you dont want to apply more than .15 lbs of Nitrogen per 1k sqft when spraying VS when you apply granular you can apply up tp 1 pound of N per 1k no problem as it breaks down slowly
@trevorcolletti36935 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. This makes a lot of sense. Applying .15 lbs of N through spoon feeding helps to reach that 4 lbs mark over the course of the season. I think I’ve got the math down for my ammonium sulfate at 20-0-0 which will require me to dissolve 12 ounces of granular fertilizer for every gallon of water per 1000 sq ft through my sprayer.

Hello , Today I dug up our weed garden (previously scarified several times and removed all the weeds as best as possible). The pH is 7, possibly higher. Color from the test was slightly darker than the template. I want to mix in sand because the soil is quite “heavy”. Should I treat the soil now to bring the pH down? or how do I proceed now?

you can treat it any time before or after

I just bought a new construction house and the sod they laid is terrible. It's got brown patches everywhere and has tons of crabgrass. It's Bermuda grass and I'm in North Texas. What would you recommend? I'm not sure what you can do to new sod :/
@PrincessCutLawnCare5 ай бұрын
i recommend watering it deep twice a week (most important thing you can do) and use a general purpose fertilizer like this: amzn.to/3UlKAZe as for the crabgrass you can use the ortho pruct we used in this video to spot treat it. but as a warning do not use the blue bag of scotts halts we used in this video on new sod as it can cause root pruning to the new grass

@@PrincessCutLawnCare I've done some digging and I actually landed on Tenacity as a weed killer. I know 2-D would've worked better for crabgrass but I liked the pre-emergent of the Tenancy. I have the sprinklers going 2 timers per day, every other day for about 5 mins per zone. I actually just bought an Atlas lawnmower, string trimmer, and leaf blower from your Harbor Freight $600 video haha. You've earned my sub for replying, I appreciate it!

Great content. quick question. if i'm pre-germinating my grass seed, how long after i put the seed on the ground that i should use the pre-emergent and weed killer? im seeding bald patches and overseeding the rest of the lawn.
@mikes26875 ай бұрын
Id get a seed safe pre emergent and get it down now with your seeds. Dont get a weed/feed because it cant tell the difference from new seed/weeds.

The information is always welcomed. But Scott’s makes one thing acceptable. The Spreader. The fertilizer, seed and anything else is junk

Not sure where you getting that info from.. they make excellent fertilizers with small professional grade prills that no other big box store fertilizer has.

I have a Scotts edgegaurd mini, and it ALWAYS leaves stripes. Any suggestions? Even when I go in two directions, it doesn't matter, the dang thing leaves stripes. It seems my problem is that the propeller is below the level of the wheels and some of it falls into the wheels into the grass, causing stripes.
@PrincessCutLawnCare5 ай бұрын
How old is your spreader? They changed the design 2 years ago
@grizzsoup5 ай бұрын
Yes, two known issues with the Scott’s spreader: One you mentioned is how the propeller sits below the wheels not allowing enough margin to broadcast the fertilizer. Instead, product can collect in the hollow part of wheels or fall straight down leaving the striping pattern. A possible fix for this is to walk at a faster pace in hopes that your fertilizer is flung far enough to clear the wheel however you’d also have to adjust broadcast rate to get accurate spread. The other design flaw is the hollow part of the wheel allowing buildup of fertilizer. A cheap solution is using cardboard and/or duct tape to prevent product from falling in there. I’ve read pie tins also work. Also heard about flipping the wheels so the hollow part is on the outside. More expensive fix is buying a spreader that don’t have these design flaws. Look for one with solid or pneumatic tires. And check where the propeller is located on spreader. Apparently Scotts did upgrade the design in newer models but I just saw the other day at my local big box they were still selling the spreaders with the hollow wheels so double check to be sure.
@K-Zone5 ай бұрын
@@PrincessCutLawnCareits very recent. but all the ones online and at my big box stores still look like the propeller sits slightly below the wheels, so yeah. I might have to get a different one, maybe a handheld.
