Do you have an Ugly Lawn? Watch this.
In today's video, I'll walk you through a simple two-step process to eliminate weeds, prevent weeds, and fertilize your lawn all at the same time.
We'll be using Ortho Weed B Gon Herbicide Weed Killer to effectively tackle existing broadleaf weeds and crabgrass in your lawn. But just killing weeds isn't sufficient; we need to stop them from coming back. That's where Scotts Halts comes in - it's a pre-emergent herbicide that not only prevents weed growth but also acts as a fertilizer for your grass.
By following the steps outlined in this video, even beginners can quickly and easily restore their lawn to its former glory. Plus, all the products mentioned are readily available at your local big box store, making it convenient for you to get started right away. Say goodbye to a thin, brown, weed filled lawn and hello to a lush, green lawn!

I also found out if i apply aluminum sulfate to my lawn on a regular basis even though I have to mow more frequently my lawn greens up and seems to be a bit stronger I'm going to keep this going for a while and in the fall overseed and do some other things i've seen you and a few others do to have a better looking and more resistant weed free lawn thanks for the advice about the aluminum sulfate it def is good for the grass and as an addition to herbicides to make them more potent !

Great stuff George , i really like that you cover both the professional products and methods and the big box / more budget friendly options as well. I have transitioned to mainly professional products because with effectiveness and how long / far those products typically go its usually an overall financial savings despite more up front costs. But for those who just want to go to the big box store route there are some effective products and methods that you continually highlight. Even myself if i am in a time crunch / need a product right then and there i still once in a while grab something from a big box store.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare thank you for the info and link. I will probably use your link and buy it this time. One of those instances the end of last season and early this season i've ran out of a lot of products. End of last season finished up my Tenacity and just finished my last bags of professional fertilizer a couple weeks ago. So probably give it a go with this product this time and use it for next fertilizer application until i replenish the professional products. Especially as i do have to seed some areas so rather go with that mesotrione option this time.

Good morning SIR, I love your videos and have learned quite a bit! I have a question per the Scott’s seed & Fertilizer mini spreader. I have checked on both Home Depot and Lowe’s customer reviews and most are very negative towards the product. Most talk about the lower spreader mechanism falling apart and the axle is plastic and when the hopper is filled causing the axe to bow? I have an older Scott’s drop feeder but it does not seem to dispense larger size fertilizer, so this is reason I was looking at the midsize feeder. Have you had any issues with your feeder? Great videos my friend!

@ImStuckInStockton
@ImStuckInStockton Ай бұрын
I believe that is purely marketing. Scotts Northern Turf Builder is marked safe for all grass types. I can't find any difference between "Northern" and "Southern" Turf Builder other than the amount of K, which Southern appears to have 6% more. If they're the same price I'd say buy the southern because it has more nutrient, but not because it "isn't made for your grass type".

@PrincessCutLawnCare
@PrincessCutLawnCare Ай бұрын
hi trevor, great question, the measurements are much different as you dont want to apply more than .15 lbs of Nitrogen per 1k sqft when spraying VS when you apply granular you can apply up tp 1 pound of N per 1k no problem as it breaks down slowly
@trevorcolletti3693
@trevorcolletti3693 Ай бұрын
Thank you so much. This makes a lot of sense. Applying .15 lbs of N through spoon feeding helps to reach that 4 lbs mark over the course of the season. I think I’ve got the math down for my ammonium sulfate at 20-0-0 which will require me to dissolve 12 ounces of granular fertilizer for every gallon of water per 1000 sq ft through my sprayer.

George, I truly don't understand the logic behind "if you walk too slow, you're going to empty out your hopper." I could see that happening if there was a motor on your spreader that was constantly tossing out the granules at a steady rate regardless of your walking speed, but there's not. Instead, the wheels on the spreader and the dispensing mechanism are directly connected. If you stop walking, even if you keep the trigger handle depressed to keep the trap door open, the product stops coming out. Please explain. Honest question here.
@PrincessCutLawnCare
@PrincessCutLawnCare Ай бұрын
Hi Anthony, your right the propeller is directly aligned with how fast you walk but that does not change the amount of product being broadcasted. The product free falls out of the hopper at the same rate whether you are in motion or not so if you walk to slow the free falling product will come out early

I have a Scotts edgegaurd mini, and it ALWAYS leaves stripes. Any suggestions? Even when I go in two directions, it doesn't matter, the dang thing leaves stripes. It seems my problem is that the propeller is below the level of the wheels and some of it falls into the wheels into the grass, causing stripes.
@PrincessCutLawnCare
@PrincessCutLawnCare Ай бұрын
How old is your spreader? They changed the design 2 years ago
@grizzsoup
@grizzsoup Ай бұрын
Yes, two known issues with the Scott’s spreader: One you mentioned is how the propeller sits below the wheels not allowing enough margin to broadcast the fertilizer. Instead, product can collect in the hollow part of wheels or fall straight down leaving the striping pattern. A possible fix for this is to walk at a faster pace in hopes that your fertilizer is flung far enough to clear the wheel however you’d also have to adjust broadcast rate to get accurate spread. The other design flaw is the hollow part of the wheel allowing buildup of fertilizer. A cheap solution is using cardboard and/or duct tape to prevent product from falling in there. I’ve read pie tins also work. Also heard about flipping the wheels so the hollow part is on the outside. More expensive fix is buying a spreader that don’t have these design flaws. Look for one with solid or pneumatic tires. And check where the propeller is located on spreader. Apparently Scotts did upgrade the design in newer models but I just saw the other day at my local big box they were still selling the spreaders with the hollow wheels so double check to be sure.
@K-Zone

@@PrincessCutLawnCareits very recent. but all the ones online and at my big box stores still look like the propeller sits slightly below the wheels, so yeah. I might have to get a different one, maybe a handheld.

@@artieartya It's true that they do try to cater the products in local stores for the types of lawns in the area, but there are still products that can be harmful, especially to St. Augustine. I was just saying it's best practice to check what grasses any product you purchase is made for-especially if you're purchasing online. It's also best to check specifically the label or the manufacturer's website because a lot of big box stores aren't careful about their listings. My Home Depot listing for generic Weed B-Gon that is available in store that says it's "all purpose" for different types of lawns but, checking the label and Ortho's website, it expressly says "do not use on St. Augustine" Edit: Just checked Lowe's and they *do* have a version that is specifically for St. Augustine turfs-just goes to show that you have to be careful and make sure the products are made for your lawn
