While manual weeding seems like the obvious choice, it is important not to discount the human cost of a more labor-intensive process. I am inherently lazy, and hate weeding my own tiny garden, so I realize that the grueling labor that goes into manually-weeded tea is worth a much higher cost so that the farmers can get appropriately compensated, but that’s not possible or desirable for a lot of people. This was a great presentation of the pros and cons of different methods, though!

No doubt it's a lot of work, especially when you're doing it in the hot sun, on a slope, or in unfavourable terrain! But like all things, you get what you pay for, and any chance to reduce exposure to chemicals is worth it, in our opinion! Good luck on your home garden 😉

I'm a fan of wild-grown cultivation, weeds tend to be an issue in disturbed environments where they haven't yet been outcompeted by a more dominant established presence supported by its ecosystem, so careful planning and management to introduce species which are good at mitigating unwanted growth without disturbing the soil seems like the best solution. Albeit, this too is not dramatically less labor-intensive compared to manual weeding and might make it harder to access the tea plants for harvest which again may complicate labor use during the most critical part of the cultivation period.

Hmm which provides better tea - monkey picked, or cat weeded?
@BitterleafTeas4 жыл бұрын
Haven't hired any monkey to pick, but based on how that cat weeds, we've got some primo homegrown tea on the way

I preffer to pay good money for a healthy grown tea that drinking pesticides and thinking of all the dead „bugs” - animals who lived in the area
