This song was a turning point in Eurovision history. This song closed a chapter and started an era. Before this song, dancing divas were always undervalued by juries regardless of how popular they were with public. This song and this performance proved a concept how to do dancing diva staging. And followed my many successful interpretations of it like Chanel and Noa Kirel. Ps video effects are allowed. You already watched many performances with video effects and pre recorded videos within performances.

Eleni brought something to Eurovision that had been forgotten for so many years. Something about a diva that can ACTUALLY sing and dance at the same time and doing it on her level, with that confidence and this amount of choreography. What makes this impressive is that the vocals were completely live. Pre-recorded backing vocals were introduced in 2021, which I'm still ambivalent about.
@mjm30918 ай бұрын
They were introduced because of the safety issues with rona and tbh - it's like musical instruments, back up singers aren't really necessary for the main even, especially as main contestant is still required to sing. On the other side of things, we do have no-lyrics songs or songs that were sung in sign language. It's really only an issue, when someone actually tries to abuse the system. Which thankfully haven't happened yet.

@@aygusti Of course they're Cypriots. There is no dispute. It doesn't make them any less Greek in our eyes. This isn't a Russia/Ukraine dispute, independence has never been in question, though weariness is understandable given current political climates. Greece isn't nearly as irredentist as such statements may (again, in this current political climate, understandably) lead you to believe. We've just fiercly proud of Cyprus, because we share the same blood, the same language, the same struggles. However, freedom is enough of a mutual cultural value to disavow any self-respecting Greek as only viewing Cyprus as a mere extension of our country. They are their own sovereigns. They are as much ours as we are theirs. I'd sooner question your understanding of your friends' opinions than I would Greek-Cypriot relations. But then again, I see why you might disagree. This was the song that turned around Cyprus's fortunes at Eurovision, and Eleni was the performer who started the raft of girl bop clones in the coming years after 'Fuego' dropped! But this one will always be the one for me that blew me away the most. Everyone literally slept on this, right up until that first semifinal performance....then she shot up the odds and everyone went crazy! If you get a chance to, please react to: *Hatari - "Hatrid Mun Sigra" (Industrial Punk Techno Rock) *Dami Im - "Sound Of Silence" (Emotional pop) *Keiino - "Spirit In The Sky" (Cultural Pop) *Voyager - "Promise" (Rock) And for something WACKO: *Ping Pong - *Be Happy" 🤣🤣🤣
@funkerman868 ай бұрын
Eleni didn't start the raft of girl pop performers for crying out loud. Did she elevate the performance bar in this genre at Eurovision and showed what is possible ? Absolutely. But this doesn't make her a pioneer and the "clones' that followed raised the bar even higher with better vocals and much more technical choreography.
@AmaanStorm8 ай бұрын
@@funkerman86 erm, Eleni's entire package was a new thing at that point in time. There was no-one else that had produced what she did. Name me someone who could be attributed to having a similar package to what Eleni brought? But after Eleni, year on year, you have the clones.

@@AmaanStorm This type of performance started from the time of Sertab, and was followed by Ruslana, Helena, Kalomira, Ani Lorak, to name a few. Yes Fuego was an elevated performance of this genre compared to the pop queens that dominated in the early 00s and Chanel lifted this to a whole new level in 2022, so although Fuego was great for its time, there was nothing pioneering about it. Not to mention that in the non-Eurovision pop scene there were international superstars that built an entire career on this type of performance for decades.
@AmaanStorm8 ай бұрын
@@funkerman86 I hear you, but you're missing the point entirely. The only similarity in the artists you mention is that they are females who dance. The unique point of Eleni's performance was that is was sensual and oozed sex appeal. It was hyper feminine. The artists you mentioned were cutesy or just delivered a standard performance. Eleni's performance was the first to incorporate a sexy routine over a slinky sounding song. As you said, Chanel then took it and elevated that further, then Noa Kirel took that even further, but the bottom line is, Eleni began the trend. Yes there have been many other solo female performers who have had some choreography, but none of it was hyper feminised and 'sexy'. That's my point. And I'm speaking solely about the ESC. We all know the Britneys and the Nicole Sherzingers were doing it years before, but nobody was doing that at Eurovision, so Eleni deserves her flowers.

So people from Cyprus are called Cypriots. We speak Greek and as you correctly noticed we use the Greek alphabet. We are basically Greeks but we are an autonomous, sovereign country island with its own flag etc. However, we share the same culture, cuisine, religion, traditions, and national anthem. A fun fact is that throughout the history of Eurovision, Greece and Cyprus exchanged 12 points, and this created a lot of controversy in the Eurovision fandom lol. But that is simply because we listen to the same artists (the majority of whom are Greek artists as Cyprus has only 1.2 million people so the music scene here is tiny) so we obviously feel more connected to each other's songs. Love your videos guys, can believe another Eurovision week is over. Can't wait for your reaction to this year's songs!!!

I was in the audience in 2018 when this performance happened, unfortunately the flames in the bridge were not on stage and are video effects. When the real flames appeared they nearly burnt my eyebrows off 🤣🤣👍🏼

So I have some songs/videos you should check out in particular. All That I Can Say, Deep Inside, No More Drama, Enough Cryin, Take Me As I Am, The One, We Got Hood Love, Someone To Love Me, Mr Wrong, Right Now, Whole Damn Year, Come See About Me. All dope frfr..

Cyprus actually has two side the official Greek side and the Turkish side which was invaded by Turkey in 1974 they are divided by an area called the green line. If you wish to go from one side to the other you need to go through checkpoints and show your passport. Love your banter and content you are really entertaining 😎👌

So lemme give you some break and introduce you to Junior Eurovision. A contest introduced to give some more spotlight to the youngest singers and child-targeted genres and music. Like original Eurovision it started quirky and kinda amateur, but thesw days it's really competing in quality with adult competition (I blame Poland tbh, for going to hard at one point). Some additional information - Junior ESC allows for kids between like 9-14. And there have been winners and performers form JESC who later on competed in adult contest (people probably will recommend them at some point). Also before introduction of JESC rules for ESC didn't fully specify the ages. Making it possible for Sandra Kim at age 13 (which she actually lied to the producers that she was 15 to be allowed). There will never be a younger winner, due to modern rules that push younger kids for the junior competition. So my recommendations - you probably could go by year like you did with ESC (Eurovision site has lists of all contestants and their placements btw. for both competitions). But I would also give you a nice group of five winners that in my opinion are worth checking for multiple factors (you could check last five ones, but competition really has been dominated by France and Poland lately, lol). 1. "Cœur" - Zoé Clauzure (2023/last winner). 2. "Superhero" - Viki Gabor (2019 winner). 3. "Not My Soul" - Destiny Chukunyere (2015 winner). 4. "Bzz.." - Bzikebi (2008 winner). 5. "Ti si moja prva ljubav" - Dino Jelusić (2003/first winner). There are obviously also a lot of other really good songs, like "Antes muerta que sencilla" from 2004. "Nebo" from 2012. "Tu primo grande amore" from 2014. "Anyone I Want to Be" from 2018 or "Qami Qami" from 2021. And if you ever decide to check full competitions at some point - just to get a vibe. From Junior Eurovision, 2020 is definitely the year to check out. It was one of the best events in the whole franchise and actually the only Eurovision event in 2020, because adult one has cancelled for safety reasons (junior is usually few months after so there was more ways to secure event). Whole thing was made inside studio in Warsaw, but also in half of the other competing countries, that didn't decide to travel to Poland (as everyone was allowed to film in their own places, for safety of the kids). Each country was given strict stage rules to make it all fair for everyone, but it also allowed for a lot of freedom never seen before - especially when it comes to stage graphics/CGI. It was especially fun to watch, because Poland won in 2018 and 2019, and both wins were first time Poland ever won in the whole franchise. Which made them go all out for their final hosting opportunity. With both Polish winners slaying a performance with 2019's adult winner - Duncan Laurence. Some additional cool stuff about Junior Eurovision - they kept the old rule from main contest of songs having to be at least 50% in the native languages. Probably for fairness reasons (not everyone can speak English at that age) and for some cultural heritage recognition. This lead to rare languages to be used. Like Irish Gaelic (the Irish broadcaster uses that language so they go with it instead of Irish English). Suprisingly - Dutch (Netherlands rarely use it in adult ESC). Welsh (before UK as whole decided to come back) and Kazakh - as Kazakhstan was allowed to compete, which they did between 2018-2022).

Nationality-wise Cypriots are Greek. It's similar to let's say Austria and Germany, same culture, language, same people, but had to become 2 different countries, though many times they tried to unite.
