Week 3 and The Queen Castle

In this, we do our 3rd inspection and make my first attempt at splitting with a queen castle! Will it work???? We'll take a look next week to see where we are at.

Another nice video. Food for thought what about just adding the Layens top bar only. Would that work? Or how about shaving the sides off or making the tops as wide as the bottom and using plastic inner covers to keep them separate. Just food for thought and hoping you have great success.

Hi Timothy. This was a few years ago and I've learned a lot since then! I think it's easier to just use my nucs for queen castles, then I can let them expand for a while before I transfer them into their forever home. Thanks for the comment and for sharing your ideas, you never know who they might help!

Just found your channel. I know this is months behind and doesn't apply now but.... Typically that soon after installing a package of you find a QC they are trying to superced. There's something about that queen they don't like. I wouldn't have tried splitting either hive yet. Maybe not at all in the first year. The new hive starting with no comb has so many hurdles to get past, to have that added to it. Looking good though. Will watch some more and see how things worked out for your first year.

I am really enjoying watching your videos!!! The "Queen Castle" concept is intriguing if only those silly girls will quit building double combs, ( & cross combs). If you do succeed in your splits, is there enough time before Winter to build up the hives to sustaining levels? Supplemental feeding? I just finished both books referenced in your (article?) and WHEW...my brain is fried!!! LOL Great amount of knowledge contained within... I am considering building my beehives with steel insulated panels, ( garage door panels), to be both mouse & skunk proof, but am considering the downside also...Humidity and Bears!!! ( I'm in Arkansas, so have both in abundance ;-) Perhaps Vivaldi boxes & electric fencing are in my future? Thanks again for posting Amigo, and NEVER GIVE UP!!! :-)

I made some spacers that I hope will help get them on track. I take full responsibility for the comb messing up. Between the feeder and the follower board I got them all messed up. Should have a couple nucs coming this week and I won’t make the same mistake again. Glad you’re enjoying the videos!
