Oscars are intellegent wet pets. Similar to a betta. He is at the bottom because he is stressed and depressed about his conditions. The water change and filter cleaning is nice and brought his mood up a bit because it's much cleaner. But you need to upgrade him to a longer tank, he has barely any swim room in there. And with a pleco, assuming common, and Oscar the bioload for such a small water volume is like swiming in toxic waste. After a day in that tank they will need another water change, that's how much they poop and dirty the tank. You dont have adequete filtration for the 2 species, enough for the tank if you had nano fish, but not for monster fishes. And hack for HOB filters, you can throw in small lava rock in the open compartment of the filter to provide the best area to grow and store your bacteria. Make sure when cleaning though, just replace the pads. You can clean the intake and propeller every few months, just never the inside box or lava rocks submerged in the filter. Good luck to you on your fish keeping endeavors. But I hope you do take advice and research. Not to scold you, but to educate you. We say these things because we have unfortunately gone through the negelect ourselves because we are too impatient. Dont want to see you going through it also. But that is the most harsh way to learn from mistakes, so the decision is up to you ultimately.

I use to have a tank similar to that one, unfortunately it got cracked moving to a new house. I think mine was 35 or 40 gallons. How big is yours ? Oscars are my fav fish !! Looks Nice !!

Mine is a 55 gallon ! I would upgrade to a bigger size but don’t have enough space where I live now ! Also, that’s what’s up, I enjoy Oscar’s also

Don’t ever deep clean you washing all the good stuff off my dude and rinse the stuff off in tank water not the sink
