One of my favorite parts of my fourth week in Sofia was paying a visit to the "House with the Strawberries." The house is a sad reminder of the lingering impact of the nationalization of properties that took place under communism in Bulgaria. Despite being publicly owned now, its state of neglect highlights the challenges of maintaining and restoring historic landmarks with such a complicated past. I hope that someday, the descendants of the original owners can have the home returned to them and that it can be beautifully restored for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. 🍓💛
