today's living abroad diaries is a weekend in my life as an American living in Germany! quick note regarding me speaking german: I know it's not perfect and I can hear the small pronunciation/grammatic errors but I feel like the best way to learn and improve is to practice speaking as much as possible, so please be kind in the comments! :) I want to speak German more in upcoming videos so let me know if you'd like a vlog "komplett auf deutsch" (completely in German!)

Honestly, I am really impressed with your language, espeacially your pronaunciation was really well! A german vlog would also be great 💖

I just want to say that your german is really impressive for how little time you have spent in Germany. I grew up in Germany and moved to the US in my late teens so I am fluent in German. Keep working on it!!! Also all the bakery footage makes me so jealous. I miss the bakery so much!
@lifewithkatie4 жыл бұрын
awe thank you, that means so much!!! and I totally get that, the bakery is my favorite! 🍞

Don't be afraid if you don't understand everything. Ask, ask, ask, nobody bite your head off. ;) We German like it if somebody try to speak the language. And the most German understand english, at least the younger generation. :)

Hey Katie, I just found your channel! It's so exciting, I had a similar story. I've been living abroad for almost 5 years and Im in London working in fashion. Btw, your apartment is so cute!!

I have been living in Germany since 1974. With a short timeout when I was in the U.S. Army. When I started learning the language, I had my fears, too. Fears, I might be made fun of or ignored, looked at in that certain way ("Who the hell are you?") I can tell you! It never happened! Don´t worry, if you get something wrong! somebody will help, by correting you. Not in a teaching manner. They will just say what you said wrong correctly. That helps. Many people over here speak at least one foreign language. So, they know how hard it can be, learning german. They respect you for showing that much respect for them. So keep your head up! You´re doing great! Hope to see your next vlog, soon!

Living for these vlogs! I spent a few weeks in high school in Germany and loved it so much. It’s been a few years since I’ve taken a German class but definitely plan on brushing up in the future. Happy to see how genuinely happy you are 😌

Katie just want to let you know how much I enjoy watching you. So glad that you're taking advantage of this time in your life and taking on new experiences. However I don't mean to make you afraid but it worries me when you announce that you're alone and for how long I mean this in the nicest way and just want you to be safe whether you're in Germany or back in the states. I guess it's just the New Yorker in me even though I've been living in Kansas for a long time now. Keep taking on the challenges and wonder life throws your way with gusto and that beautiful smile of yours enjoy this particular time in your life. Glad that you're documenting this part of your life to look back on and remember the fond memories and experiences. So happy for you. Enjoy every minute of it !

completely felt your last point about how anxiety provoking going about your day to day life while also being in a foreign country can be. i did a similar thing while living in France, and it was definitely a case of taking baby steps at first (the bakery, the store, etc), then tackling bigger things when i started feeling a little more at ease. loving this series 💕

Your German sounds great already! Keep on learning, you will pick up so many things really fast! I guess you’re already doing this, but watching German news or films in German really helps because you hear the natural-sounding style instead of the things they teach you in courses or online. Hope your internship is going well!

You have a French accent...lol..., when speaking German, not bad for an American in Germany. Work on your grammar :) Should be very easy for you to learn German, Dutch or Scandinavian, halve the words in English are Germanic. Just read about Grimm's laws, and learn how sounds can change...
