Susan I want you to know I adore you as a teacher! Lol I’m a former third grade teacher turned homeschooling mom of 4 and I literally use everything you’ve created in our homeschool, I’m your number one customer 😅😂 before we worked out of boring workbooks. The prep for a mom at home is INSANE bc I don’t have the fast copiers or laminators but it’s a labor of love to see my homeschool come to life with your resources. I use chatgpt to make companion mentor text lesson plans for any book I want based off of the template you use, and I love the math and literacy centers. Your stuff is perfect because I have 6 year old 1st grade twins and a 7.5 year old 8th grader so I’m able to scaffold and differentiate using your stuff. My only wish is that your stuff went through 5th grade, I’d keep buying it! All this to say, thanks so much for all you do!

Great video! I’m loving your EL curriculum. As a Montessori teacher and a language instructor for our Montessori teacher training program, I know the importance of hands on activities, and building their background knowledge to help with comprehension. Btw, I love your outfits. You look so professional and comfortable. 😊

I agree with your thoughts on EL. It does involve a lot of prep work for the teacher. Not only gathering materials from home, my family, or switching with another teacher, but actually reading the 30+ pages in the teacher materials. I do feel that the writing ipiece s not appropraite for the first graders. Our district has one more year of this adoption before we can change programs!

It’s interesting watching you implement the new English programme. I guess you’re providing the ‘experiences’ for the students to write about. 📝 I really enjoy watching your videos. You’re a fantastic teacher. ⭐️

I'm beginning that tools lesson tomorrow. First year using EL Education in my district. Yes, there seems to be a lot of prep work for teachers but I laminated the tools last night so I can reuse them year to year.

Yes! If we end up choosing it, I will be sure to see how I can organize and keep things to make it easier to use each year!

I recently retired (40 years of teaching kindergarten). Our district just adopted EL Education, so I am enjoying your thoughts and feedback on this literacy program. As of now most of my peers are not happy with the lack of materials needed for each lesson, lack of workbooks, and teacher preparation. In k the first module is toys and ironically (shamefully) made all k classrooms remove all play materials a few years ago. So now teachers are scrambling to gather objects needed for this module. Across all grade groups, the initial feedback is negative for this program. Also, the district stopped using Heggerty for PA and Saxon for phonics. 😢

We started Imagine Learning this year for Math. I really like the Math program. Still getting use to HMH for reading. In your last video you said you wanted to add graphing and telling time to your math warm ups. I was wondering if you have that for sale? I bought your bundle of number talks last year which has been so beneficial. Love all your stuff! ❤

Yes!! Both are currently in the works - as soon as I upload them, you'll be able to grab them in the bundle!

I'm glad you are off to a good start! I'd like a video about effective transitions in class. I tolerated more dawdlers than I should have last school year and I worry about loud transitions because I don't ask for absolute silence. Is there a middle ground?

Hi Susan! Also using EL for the first time this year - Modules and Skills Block. Would LOVE to continue hearing about your experience and any tips/tricks your team comes up with! Also, are you implementing Skills Block, as well?
@SusanJonesTeaching4 ай бұрын
We are not doing the skills block, no! Just the modules for now, we decided to keep Fundations for the pilot!

What advice do you suggest to taking your teaching license? How to prepare? What to expect?
@teacherof204 ай бұрын
What state are you in? I know in TX the certification website also has study guides. What helped me was answering the questions as in a "perfect world" scenario. What you answer on the test may not be what you end up doing in real life because you may not always have all the resources at your disposal. Hope this helps!! Best of luck to you!
@SusanJonesTeaching4 ай бұрын
Each state has different requirements for their teaching license, so I agree with @teacherof20, you will want to look up what the tests and requirements are and use those specific study guides!

Can you tell me more about the books kids make for birthdays?
@SusanJonesTeaching4 ай бұрын
Yes! On the student's birthday, that child receives a cover page that they can decorate and write how old they are. Everyone else in the class gets a page that says "(Birthday student's name) is great because _______________________________". They fill it in and draw a picture to match, then I compile it all together and we read it at the end of the day!

Do students get a say in the rules and punishments? Just asking.
@SusanJonesTeaching4 ай бұрын
We make all our classroom rules together! In older grades, I know many teachers have students help come up with logical consequences and that's successful. In first grade, I try to keep it simple and give relevant examples as needed myself!
