1/2/2025. Week 10. A bi-weekly documentation of a rye cover crop no-tilled into a harvested corn field on a Dodge Co. Healthy Soil Healthy Water grower participant just south of the Dodge Co. Fairgrounds in Dodge Co. WI. 55 lbs/ac rye is our species for the cover crop. This corn was combined at the end of October, the Rye cover crop was planted the following day, after the Rye was planted the field was stripped in 30-inch rows. Spring 2025 soybeans will be no-tilled, planted green into the 30 inch row strips. Shortly after the beans get planted a residual herbicide will be applied to help fight annual weed pressure. Around the middle of June, a contact herbicide will be applied to terminate the rye, depending upon the spring growing conditions and the rye height, we might crimper roll the rye then apply the herbicide, or apply the herbicide and then crimper roll the rye. (this all depends on the growing conditions next spring). Follow us from the end of October when the rye cover crop gets planted to the end of June when the cover crop is terminated. #Dodge Co.
