Arati Mukherjee was indeed a true talented and versatile singer in Bengal film music industry. Unfortunately music composers except Sudhin Das Gupta and Nachiketa Ghosh nobody else had nurtured her true potential. She was always under the shadow of Sandhya Mukherjee. Later in the late 70's she started gaining immense popularity but failed to maintain because of her disturbed personal life. She tried her luck in Mumbai and won Filmfare award even...but again it was the Mangeshkar sisters and their nexus which stood in her way from getting work. Surprisingly in the 90's Sandhya Mukherjee delivered some hit songs composed by Kabir Suman ....but Arati Mukherjee was no more singing. Bengali composers ran after Mumbai artists but always ignored singers like Arati Mukherjee, Pratima Banerjee, Nirmala Mishra and others.....

Sandhya Mukherjee is indeed great singer..but Arati Mukherjee was never ever under the shadow of Sandhya mukherjee. They had good relation. Arati Mukherjee is rather more versatile and sang in many regional languages... and many of them are big hits..Sandhya mukherjee is more famous in Bengal. Sandhya mukherjee's songs are serious songs...Arati Mukherjee could sing any type of song..rabindrasangeet, tappa, western like songs classical/semi-classical fast songs folk songs.. in fact she remained the prime singer during mid-sixties to mid-eighties.. she gave hits..she never got support from actresses like suchitra sen. Sandhya mukherjee being a senior artiste sang for all leading heroines.of bengali movies during fifties..she sang very good compositions of salil choudhuri Robin Chattopadhyay.. Arati mukherjee nirmala mishra could not sing compositions of salil choudhuri due to sabita chowdhuri. Overall, Arati mukherjee is the only singer who could create identity in presence of Sandhya mukherjee Lata Mangeshkar Asha Bhosle Pratima banerjee Geeta dutta - being much younger/junior to all these super talented singers. Nobody else could do that. Shyam Teri Banshi could not be sung by any other singer from Bengal. Not even ..do naina ik kahani. Its unfortunate that bengal did not give enough respect/recognition to arati mukherjee - all her juniors received banga bibhushan award.. what could be the reasons? This is perhaps the main reason - arati mukherjee looks eclipsed. Can we ignore her and her contribution? Lataji refused the same award with some excuses. Lataji is limitless - any award should start with lataji. She is bharatratna. And the world would never ever see another talent like her -people might say - shreya ghoshal is awesome! Shreya does not have that tonal quality. How can people forget Asha bhosle??? Even after them - people have to remember Anuradha ji Alka yagnik and kavita krishnamurthy. They contributed so very much for so many years!!! Now they are under the shadow of Shreya Ghosal. We have to wait for the "time".
