Have the concrete company come back (on a rainy day) so they can see the problem and come up with a solution. Also have the Barn company come out (on a rainy day) to see the problem and ASK them about caulking the horse entrances. Caulking might cause bigger problems.

Concrete floor ideas. I have two ideas about how to keep water out of your hay area floor. One idea is to score or cut a small narrow trench along the inside/ middle walls and the water can drain out before it gets to the middle area where the hay is stored. The other idea is to pour a ( for lack of a better way to describe it) pour a tiny “wall” or ridge on the inside of the middle walls an inch or two tall and slant it so that you will trip over it. I hope I have described it well enough. Think of it like a concrete 1x1laying up next to the wall on the inside of the middle section of the barn. Or you could caulk, score and ridge all three and maybe it will keep the water out of the sides.
@ladyinky8823 жыл бұрын
Not out of the sides, it would keep the water on the sides and out of the middle.

Lester, the concrete would keep the bottom of the rolls damp on the parts that touch the concrete anyway. Do yourself a favor and put them on 2x4 or 6s or on pallets but pallets may get crushed after you put the last 2 top layers on top... you want to keep the hay dry and keep air flowing thru the bottom rolls. Good luck in what ever you do.... love your videos... they get me thru some bad nights after loosing my son to a heart infection, I have many sleepless nights and so I binge watch your videos!!!! She's looking really well thanks to you all for looking after her. Love from the UK.
@msk7553 жыл бұрын
Water drainage is a huge problem in the North here as well. Putting pallets under the hay is the best way to keep it from moulding even on good concrete, the moisture will draw in from the concrete to the bottom of the hay bales even if it has a crown and draws water away because it's so porous from what I know. Pallets are annoying to deal with but they are the best way to keep your hay dry. Love this channel, in one of the videos Lester said Santianna's horns would be worth more than Tex's horns. I'm not a supporter of trading animal parts but can you guys do a video that talks more about the Longhorns and why they are so valuable?
@texschuler3 жыл бұрын
They did the barn floor as if it were a finish floor in a building. It is perfectly flat, i dar you to get a level or marble & see. The problem is that you have open walls, & rain doesnot fall straight down. They did a great job with the concrete. The error happened in overall planning

You're better off extending the roof of the barn on the sides and roll away doors on the front and back. Caulking will end up being a nightmare when you wash out the stalls and traps urine that you won't be able to wash out. Not only will it smell horrible it will be a breeding ground for bacteria especially in warmer weather. On the other hand you could drill water drainage holes.
@onsum13 жыл бұрын
Do a concrete leveler!! My garage, the same thing happened. Wait until dry, clean the concrete and then dump gallons of leveler on it, or have the concrete company come back out and do it! It levels and seals! That way the water will run out, instead of in!
