That outdoor book market reminds me of similar markets in Paris and Florence; I even bought a couple of French books even though I don't read the language because of their beautiful illustrations, their age and the quality of production. I agree with you about Wagner's writing, I find his Kane stories to be superior to his horror fiction (although anyone who could write "Sticks" is an awesomely talented short story author as it is). I've read that the stick constructions were also the inspiration for the similar objects in HBO's "True Detectives" Season 1. And let's not forget that Wagner edited many volumes of DAW's "The Year's Best Horror Stories". The Busiek/Perez run on The Avengers is one of my favourites, such fun energetic stories and stunning art. It's like the Heroes Return fiasco, as you accurately termed it, gave Busiek and Perez a surge of creative energy and a desire to make things right again for both the fans and the Avengers themselves. For all his consumption of house staff, Roger continues to look remarkably thin and trim.

Glad your trip went well and you made it back safely! I loved your videos with Steve and I have started following his channel as well! I wrapped up Cimmerian Sept. by finishing Black Stranger and reading Frost Giant's Daughter for the first time. I really enjoyed both, especially Black Stranger. I loved the atmosphere created in that one as well as the side characters. I also picked up a collection of M R James' ghost stories to follow along with you on that one in Oct. I also picked up Dracula to read as I've somehow never read that original story. My sister was a huge fan of Peter Benchley and she had me read Jaws. I remember liking the small town politics and how the shark effected things, and I was surprised at the differences with Hooper and Brody's wife. But I was a little let down by the ending. I've read a little of that Avengers run and enjoyed it. I'll have to see if I can find some more of it. Love your videos as always!

Speaking of unboxing, I've been going through a room full of book boxes the last few days. Most of these I haven't seen in years! Among many things that I discovered I found what I first though was a copy of Anne Rice's Vampire Lestat. As I opened it up I found it was actually a graphic novel version that I didn't even know existed! It's published by Ballentine Books, Innovation. It's really quite a beautiful book. Although I don't usually read graphic novels this looks so nice that I'm going to give it a try!

Well, I have been quite busy with local elections and work (I will start on a new job as a librarian next week!) this September, so have just gotten around to read a few Historical Fiction novels this month: I have finished «The Last Kong of Lydia» & «The King & The Slave» by Tim Leach (set during the expansion of the Persian Empire) and «Count Belisarius» by Robert Graves (about the Eastern Roman General who lead the Justinian Reconquest of North Africa and Italy, often dubbed the «Last Roman»). I had to push «The Silence of the Girls» until now, but will most likely finish it early this coming week and then start on my scheduled October TBR: The «Kingkiller Chronicle» novels by Patrick Ruthfuss and the «Siege» Trilogy by KJ Parker!

@@michaelk.vaughan8617You should! Especially the original ones from the '70s. They're very creaky and earthy in that old BBC way. I think they capture the atmosphere of the stories well. Only the first 4 episodes adapted James, but if you like the original series, they kept it going intermittently from 2005 on. The last 4 were adapted by Mark Gatiss of Sherlock and The League of Gentlemen fame, and he's clearly a massive James fan. He also made an entire documentary about James - Ghost Writer - that you can find here on KZbin.

Travelling seems to have been a slightly hairy prospect for you. At least Jaws saved you from too close a shave with boredom. In a Lonely Place is the only Wagner I've read. Liked it an awful lot, some really solid stuff in that book. I should get around to the Kane books at some point. Wouldn't worry about the World's Finest challenge too much, you were on holiday after all. Even six months shows more determination than I can usually muster.

I have pictures in my mind now, The Lady od the manour isn’t sitting right behind you😳 Immediately ordered M.R. James Ghost Stories for my Ereader. Unfortunately Jaws, the German Edition is only available for 32 Euros and more so I have to wait longer. It’s a shame that there is no system around for cheap used books.
