My guess is that apart from the few movies he has done (eg. Three Amigos) he didn't try to get into movies. It can be very restrictive and he probably prefers the stage or unscripted tv.

@@jacobpaint I think he made bad movie choices and it f the movie career up. He wasnt so "alpha" like Steve or Bill Murray, Martin is perfect for TV though, Steve or Bill Murray was not exactly and Chavy Chase isn't funny at all for more then 30 years.., Martin's unique ability to create insanely bizarre characters and make impersonations sets him appart and he also actually played the role of the one who didnt make it big in the movies which fits perfectly for interviews n other tv stuff.

@@Setherian there are plenty of much less talented people, who are less famous and have fewer connections that have been able to continue to make many more movies? Three Amigos was panned when it came out but aged well and people started to think more fondly of it in retrospect. Short hasn't done many movies so its hard to imagine how you think he didnt have many opportunities if he'd wanted to. You used Chevy as an example but he made plenty of bad films and was still asked to make more.

The only time I laughed was at the very beginning when he is interviewing celebrities (which is what the character is all about), and then not a single laugh afterwards when the interviews stop after the first 3 minutes. THe interviews are what make the character funny. I learned that the character is not funny inherently, apart from that.
