I was in 4th grade when my mother who was 40 yrs and dad 57 yrs at my birth decided to homestead. My dad retire from a local pencil factory. Our 1st gardens tomato patches look just like the ones here, lol. Ous neighbors would drive by day, evening, night up to the patch and pull em off a few. Thanks for that beautiful memory. He has been gone since 1991 and her 2001, sad it seems like yesterday but the education I received is God given. Blessings to you all!

Awesome haul! We have 3 Amish/mennonite stores just over our state line. We make a trip about every 2 or 3 months. It’s amazing what you find and at such great prices. I love canning tomatoes, I don’t do it anymore but one trip I found gallon cans of diced tomatoes for .99! I bought 5 gallons. When I open one, I use what I need then put the rest in containers in the freezer for later use. Would love to see you can all those tomatoes!

I'm a social/cultural anthropology student in Denmark and I don't even live in the US but I think it's so interesting learning a bit about people's grocery and food habits in different places. I'm fortunate to live close to many grocery stores but I love the idea of farms where you harvest your own produce - and that Amish store looked really good!
@loiscampbell35105 жыл бұрын
My first time watching any of your videos. What lovely scenery on your drive to the Amish Store. $10 for a bushel of peppers and $16 for each bushel of tomatoes? Oh, my word. No farms like that around here, I'm afraid. Your property is gorgeous and your kitchen island is to die for! I look forward to watching more of your videos. I would love to see you process the tomatoes and peppers.

I am surrounded by the Amish where I live. I shop their products all the time. Being dairy farmers, when I was growing up we had them as neighbors, helping each other. I get most of my produce and all of my spices and baking goods from our stores here. You should check out their furniture stores. Their craftsmanship is outstanding. Try out their Belgium Cream filling for pastries. All of their pasta choices. Their homemade noodles stand the test of an all day warming of chicken noodle soup on the stove. Their meat is tops. Try the Buffalo. They also have some nice devotionals. There are some places that have cut ware. Their knives are nice. Try the tomato slicer knife. Brilliant. My grandson's love when I take them because they get a little pie to eat. The taffey is good too. When certain fruits and veggies start coming in on season the prices are fantastic and quantity is great. It helps to supplement your canning from your home garden. Love the Mennonite and Amish stores. Many of their containers are freezer safe.

Oh Shelby ... I am so glad the Amish store was so nice. I was raised Mennonite and our sugar, flour (100 pound bags) lunch meats, cheeses, jello, canning needs and spices we bought at the Amish market. Dad painted the dairy farmers barns and house in exchange for a gallon of milk and a pound of butter everyday delivered to our door and 1/2 a cow when they butchered. Dad also painted the pig farmers house and barns for 2 pigs at butchering time. We had a 2 acre garden we called the truck patch and then a table garden of everything we ate that Summer. We had 100 chickens and raised rabbits for food. Dad would pheasant hunt and go frog leggin ... We had apple trees, concord grapes and pear, trees and 100 strawberry plant bed. I loved my childhood and raised my boy that way till I couldn't can ect anymore. I have MS. I love your video's

Hey Shelby and Ken!! 👋I couldn't click the button fast enough!😆 Shelby,I know I've said it about a dozen times,but I so adore you guys! You and Ken are my absolute favorite. This was another great video. I myself truly do enjoy farms,country markets and country living and wish I could make my way to that store. Interestingly being a native Newyorker I just wish I would have looked into heading upstate to the farms and markets there. Instead I would go out of state without realizing there were great farms and markets right there. And the land! Ugh..Ken!! You're the best,you do such an awesome job with the landscaping and up keeping of the garden and great outdoors. Thank you guys so much for sharing. I'm getting pointers from you guys as I prepare for my own great out doors, garden and even with my very meal prep. And the seasonings!! Wow!! Half of them you can't even find in local markets, without traveling. I often would have to commute from market to market,or order on line... Beautiful guys! Thank you and blessings you all!🙏

The Amish markets are my kryptonite. Everything you can think of spice and produce wise. Our local Amish market has a deli and bakery but it's not as cheap as y'alls market prices. I can walk around those stores for hours. That was a very beautiful farm. Lots of yummy produce. It reminds me of my pawpaws farm he had 8-10 gardens planted every year not including his kitchen garden. He'd feed the half the community. The things he didn't grow other farmers did and they would trade. I miss those simpler times

My husband and I just got home from Amish Country (Holmes County, Ohio) and I stocked up, too. I am set for fall and winter holiday baking/cooking. I try not to buy too much or I can’t justify needing to go back for a while 😉 I got fry pies to bring home to the kids and lemon pie filling for my aspiring baker (14yo) daughter. One of my sons goes cuckoo for those pastel mints with the nonpareil‘s on them so I got some for his stocking. While we are there my husband eats his weight in pickled eggs. And he sings to me from Beauty and the Best. When I was a boy I ate 5 dozen eggs...🎶 😂 I need to learn how to make them.

I think with those tubs of spices I would peel off the labels, trim it down and stick the name part of the label to the side of the tubs so they can be stacked up and you can still read the labels.....absolutely amazing prices....I’m in Australia and honestly some things you show in your hauls we pay about four to five times the price, it’s crazy ! I know wages in Australia are higher but I don’t think they are that much higher but I may be wrong...in one of your hauls you showed some roasts at under $2 a pound....most red meat here is over $25.00 kg ( about $12 pound ?) and that’s not the quality stuff..even basic cheap minced beef is $10 kg here ( about $4.50 pound ?) love watching your channel...wish I had the space to have a really good pantry !! Thanks you
