I would recommend the Xenogenesis aka Lilith's Brood trilogy by Octavia Butler, that is Dawn, adulthood rites and imago. I really loved that one!

"The Judge"... 1 of my greatest fears is government authority. No joke when I say this; when I talk about legal obligations (taxes, conscription, vaccines which is a good thing, jury duty etc.) I always tell people that the President orders it to show how serious I am and I use his/her name. So in my country (Indonesia) until October 20th when a new President is sworn in, I say "Jokowi orders it". And when I tell someone not to get in legal trouble I say "You don't want the men in brown (police uniforms) knocking on your door". So in your case, "Biden ordered it" and you had a run in with the "men in blue". Sorry to hear that.

It’s a genuine fear to have, It Feels like the whole world is one giant open air prison. You stay clear of Jokowi and the men in brown

Do you have any advice for actually finishing books? I'm impressed by how many of these books you read and finish so often. I try to spend a hour a day reading but it takes me over a month to finish a book that way. I also enjoy youtube and film and I just can't balance all of them and end up never finishing any books. I love reading and am inspired by your reading but want to be able to finish more of them.

Thanks for thinking of me to answer your question, I consider it the highest compliment. the truth is I’m in a rare position in my life where I don’t work and have no real friends or family obligations to keeps me from reading. To be even more honest If I didn’t set myself high reading goals, I probably wouldn’t be sober and getting into trouble. To answer your question. First I suggest switching to short stories and Novella’s so you can get the feeling of reward finishing something (most books can cut 100p of filler). Second maybe it’s the genre or authors you’re choosing if you’re struggling to finish, don’t listen to other people’s top 10 list. Find what you love. Third and probably the toughest, you’re gonna have to cut down the screen time, no easy way around it. (Physical books are key for that) I hope my advice is helpful. And please don’t feel bad for not reaching your reading goals, You’re still doing better then most ppl even picking up a book and trying . Everyone’s reading journey is different, but they all start off with a single step.

@@PoorPersonsBookReviewer Very helpful. Thank you for sharing all this. I like the idea of reading shorts first but I do really want to get into Gene Wolfe. Thanks again!

Even if it was all meant to be humorous making the ghost of Emmitt Till a red herring was made in very poor taste. Thx for respecting my opinion. Like Octavia butler maybe I would like one of their earlier books
