Dementia is such a sad affair for the ones who have to watch their beloved relative decline. My brother aged 71 is on the path and sometimes I feel my heart is going to break in two. I cannot believe this is happening to him - a gifted and talented linguist; a lovely, positive person. So so sad. I can't stay this sad or I'll go down the drain. I like your idea of going into my sadness for maybe 30 minutes a day.

Oh Caroline what you said about your dad’s wallet resonated with me so much. My husband is in a care home with Lewy Body Dementia and gets very anxious if he has no money. I took in his wallet with some coins and an old debit card in and the wonderful staff printed out some notes for him. He’s since “spent” the notes apparently on a haircut which cost him £160 🤣🤣🤣🤣 - so glad he didn’t have real notes. xx

Every time I start putting my makeup on, it reminds me of my late lovely mom. She was always trying out makeup, moisturisers and wearing her jewellery. I always start crying and I have to give myself a telling off, because I can’t get my mascara on (crying ) and I start going red and blotchy!! I really have to be stern with myself now before I start, otherwise I’ve got no chance!!! She was 93 but looked about 73 and had a great sense of humour. I really miss her. My very best friend😥😥😥🙏🏻😇❤️

Hi Caroline, my mum died a year ago. I hate saying its a year because that sounds so long ago. Due to me having a chronic illness for 30 years I have had no choice but to sit with my painful grief, and I actually do feel it has helped me ( albeit at times the pain felt overwhelming) I can now talk about mum without crying just about. I think everyone is different and there is no right or wrong way to deal with grief ❤

I lost my husband five years ago and I the only time I wallow in grief and sadness now is on the odd occasion when something really reminds me of him. It's something that will never go away. Different people cope in different ways. On the 'you should' subject, Anyone saying that to me will see me doing the exact opposite. On a brighter note, I took advantage of your Wild code!

Completely agree with aĺlowing yourself to sit with your emotions. Its all to easy to feel that the "expectation" is to just get on with life. I found that just stores up problems for the future and the emotions will break through anyway. You have lost someone you love so much. Its only right to grieve for them.❤

Always enjoy your weekly vlogs Caroline, they are so varied. Those Dish Mummy & Daddy are the best scourers btw they don’t scratch non stick and last forever. We all try to find the best ways to cope in grief, so many people write books about it some help some don’t if you can’t relate to everything they say. Loosing loved ones is traumatic. Myself personally who lost my parents at a young age made myself get into the thought process that they were only one step ahead , I hope this thought helps you. ❤

I think that advice about grief or sadness was so good. I am a firm believer in not bottling it up but also down want to be looked at as a ‘sad sack’ all the time. Having moments on my own, to cry, or be sad, whatever, I think really helps. Thanks, as always, with a nice video.

I cannot believe the price of magazines now! I used to love magazines, my Nanny used to love them for the puzzles. I used to love More magazine and Cosmopolitan. I think now its actually cheaper to buy my little girls a small toy each than get them a magazine!! Which is a shame because I know my eldest who's 6 would love magazines just like I did (how many times can i say magazine 🤣🤣) Have a lovely weekend xxx

Great vlog!! I found myself nodding and saying yes!! YES! EXACTLY!!! So many times throughout watching. Grief...hmm!! It never goes away, you just get used to feeling it. Tears build up...and well over now and then. 11 years since I lost my Mum and less than a year later lost my Dad. Allowing that time to grieve and indulge in those tears and sad emotions is a relief and a release...In MY opinion. Gee wiz Caroline you have prompted me to be very brave!! So while I am being so brave might I say 'Karen...mind the door doesnt bump you on the backside as you leave'. Some people are so bloody entitled. Thank you Mrs M for a wonderful vlog. Richest Blessings to you and yours.

Caroline when i have sad thoughts about my lovely sis who died in April i think of those fun times we had together. The memories of the good times help me to deal with the sadness. Sadness comes to mind in the most silly of places (namely when using the loo) in my sisters home after she passed, it’s that it was her place, her home and i was missing her in her place. I sniffed, spoke out loud to her and got my act together and she would have laughed at that. XXX Memories win.

Thank you for the discount off the Wild products! I have ordered the body wash and mini deodorants (useful for holiday and hospital visits!) I already use the deodorant and it is lovely and works well. Grief is a funny thing, I am sure it affects us all in different ways. My widowed mum died over three years ago, and while most of her possessions were disposed of long ago, every now and then I come across something of hers (a belt, a brooch) and have a sad moment remembering.....

Hello Caroline, not sure if anyone has mentioned it but here in Australia we don't get a choice whether we vote or not. By law everyone that's a citizen has to register for voting at 18. Local council, state and federal government elections.

If you don't vote, you will receive a small fine. I think it is about $50. As an Australian I just expect to vote. Our system requires registration, and turning up at a polling booth, you are not required to mark the ballot paper. I see a right to vote as a precious chance to have my voice heard
@debfincher1741

Maryanne the fine is $99 apparently. At least last time I walked away with a democracy pencil, we kept them because of voting during covid restrictions, a very surreal experience.

Oh Caroline, sadly I don’t think grief ever dissipates you just learn to live with it, both my parents died when I was in my early 20s and I’m now 72, and I still get the odd moments of great sadness. I love the idea of the pillow but maybe it’s a bit late for me 🤣. I agree with you, we are all entitled to our own view because we are all coming from a different start place but there is absolutely no need to be rude or aggressive to anyone, we need to be tolerant of each other and the world would be a better place. I love holding a book, and get mine from charity shops and the library. Thank you for your Vlog, I hope you have a lovely time with Will & Georgia 😊😊😊

What a lovely piece to share with us at the end Caroline. Regarding the voting - you do you! I do think about those who fought so hard for women’s suffrage BUT my goodness, this time I was on the verge of not voting either. I did in the end. No party is perfect. But we can only control our little part of the world and how we treat ourselves and others. I agree about discussions now becoming very heated and unpleasant. I enjoy listening to The Rest Is Politics podcast hosted by Alistair Campbell and Rory Stewart. Different political backgrounds but fantastic, intelligent conversation - and their mantra is that they will “disagree, agreeably”. Which they do and it’s so refreshing. Just in case that’s of interest to you or anyone else!

Caroline I used to vote in my area NOT for the ones who ALWAYS got in. Didn’t make a chow of difference They still pulled it off. Like a herd of sheep. My Dad and my Granddad always voted for them is their mantra No matter the leader of the council was more bent than a six pound note. Tried again with our votes as a family and guess what. We still have the same shepherd leading the flock.

No one has the right to be ashamed of us not even friends or family. I am allergic to the word should I never use it in my life ( nor teach it)The only person who should tell you what to do is you no one else! I come from a very political family my sister is head of section she works for the EEC in Brussels and meets ministers from all over the world, she and my mother devour politics ,I have always loathed it.For me all politicians in the world have their interests at heart not that of the people, this is one of the reasons I never never voted and will continue suit .I always enjoy the quotes you add on at the end so true.

Hi Caroline, love the content today. The grief diary, wallet find brought a tear to my eye, always the oddest thing at unexpected times. I know if feel like having time to feel sad didn’t help, but stopping and thinking really can help shorten the grieving period (whatever that is), your brain can subconsciously process stuff if given some time. Don’t get me started on people and uncivilised behaviour, it seems to me we all have to be tolerant of everyone’s opinions, but if you have an opinion against modern thinking, it is dismissed, and everyone jumps on you

Good morning Caroline, WOW that was a jam packed but very enjoyable vlog for this week 😂. Totally agree with you about the comments on voting 🗳, once again I think it's that anonymity thing, would these people say these things to your face, perhaps not but it's OK when you don't know them 😏. Touching on the grief thing, I think you are very much like me and would rather be busy doing that sitting thinking about everything that goes with losing someone, but I like the idea of having just that moment in time to remember is important even if it makes us sad or cry because other wise we just compartmentalise these things which may in the long term cause harm to our mental/ emotional health. I know it's a difficult subject for you but I also appreciate when you give us little snippets of things that happened to your dad. My husband who is 59 has just been diagnosed with early onset dementia and I am devastated for him but also so frightened for our future😢. Anyway, happy thoughts. Hope you had a great weekend with Will home. Lots of love ❤️

Hi Caroline! 👋 I am loving your new vlog format. It is really enjoyable to watch and works brilliantly. Grief is a funny thing, it ebbs and flows and sonetimes it only takes something small to bring it flooding back. I think these moments never fully disappear. ❤ Re: politics/voting. I think it really important to respect one another's views. You read out my comment from last week, so I do feel bound to say that you also gave me food for thought. The accepted position is that we "should" (that word again!) vote, but I had never considered the democratic right NOT to vote. This is a very good point, so as you often say "you do you"! I hope you enjoyed Will's visit and look forward to your next video. Take care. Xxx

Loved your response to the comments on why you haven’t voted previously and might not Caroline. It’s your business and no one else’s. As always you are so down to earth and relatable and you are happy doing you. A breath of fresh air in amongst the fake influencers out there. I always look forward to your videos xx

Hi Caroline. Absolutely loving these weekly vlogs containing the recipe/grief/rant and thought for the day segments, plus all the bits in between! I saw the comment written by the lady who said she was ashamed of you for not voting and I am most definitely NOT ashamed of you for expressing that very few people have the right to be ashamed of you! Well said that lady! 👏 The thought for the day could not have been more apt! 😊 x

Hi Caroline! I love Dartmouth, definitely one of my favourite places to go in Devon……so pretty and lovely browsing to be had! No one has the right to judge you for not voting and TBH until I walked into the booth with my pencil and paper I wasn’t entirely sure where my mark was going to go……the temptation to vote for the Monster Raving Looney Party was very real as their manifesto was hilarious and gave me the best laugh I’d had since the election campaigns began lol Thankyou for sharing your grief diary with us, sending hugs. On a funny note, my Mum in law had Alzheimer’s and while in her care home it was discovered that she had swapped her false teeth with a male resident who often popped into her room! Your hair is looking very pretty btw! ❤️

Hi Caroline, thank you for doing the grief diary’s, my Mum passed in February and I have been adopting the distraction way of dealing with grief, but her house went on the market yesterday and that has made me very sad obviously so ATM sitting and dealing with emotions! 😢😢xx it’s good to hear someone else’s way of coping!❤x

I really enjoy your weekly blog, always interesting and look forward to your rant 😁. I was always an avid buyer of both Good Housekeeping and Woman & Home but when they both tipped over £5, I called it a day as I figured I could feed myself for a few days for £10. I recently read a Good Housekeeping whilst I was at the hairdressers and I enjoyed it but it struck me how many adverts are in there😳. Politics and religion are a no go for me, I've seen so many long standing friendships destroyed by both of those subjects which saddens me. I remember so vividly the absolute carnage on FB when the Brexit vote was happening, so sad to see the vitriol and hate being displayed. It seems a lot of folk just can't agree to disagree and move on. 🙁. I was sorely disappointed that Statler and Waldorf weren't on my ballot paper🙄😁.

Hi Caroline sad little story about your dads wallet, it’s funny how something can remind you of them, you reminded me of my mum who’s been gone 26 yrs, saying a change is as good as a rest one of her favourite saying, or you hear a song or something but I quite like that I feel as if there still around me.

Thanks for the recipe, that looks delicious! I also wanted to respond to your comment that "it can't get worse". It can get worse as we here in the good ol' U.S. of A. sit here and wait until November when our country will either remain a democracy or become a dictatorship. (edited to say that a dictatorship would be worse in case that wasn't obvious) Many of us here on the other side of the pond are thrilled about England's and Frances' elections and that they didn't go the way of Hungary. I also wanted to thank you for your book recommendations. We seem to like similar books. I read both of these very quickly: Someone Else's Shoes and What Lies Between Us. Loved them both! I'm pretty sure you recommended those so thanks!

With respect, I could not actually care less if you vote or not 😂😂😂 I value my right to vote and use it. That is my choice.

I did see the comments on last week’s statement and thought they were rather rude & condescending. I’m old enough to see that each party in power has not kept promises & had it’s fair share of scandals. I do vote but found it really difficult this time round. In fact in the end I voted for the only party that has kept in touch by putting news letters through the door this year. Thanks for the tip about Good Housekeeping magazine. I don’t buy every issue like I always used to - too expensive but there’s a lot to read in this months & there are quite a few book recommendations I will look out for in the library.

I am 63 and have never voted, i am not interested in politics and know nothing about it. Plus whatever promises these parties make they change them as soon as they are elected. I don’t say i think people are foolish for voting so I wouldn’t expect any comment on what I choose to do. Millions of people vote and the country has still gone to pot . Before anyone decides to lambast me about my voting abstinence I have worked as a nurse for 35 years and feel that has contributed more to society than putting in a random vote. 😊❤xx

I also didn’t vote this year (as it’s our right) as I just didn’t agree enough with their policies also for me the stance on what’s going on in the world won’t say more than that but I have lost faith in the whole lot of them and feel all the main parties could do with an overhaul…I also remember many of the labour governments so don’t feel there will be huge changes now either but time will tell and perhaps next general election there may be a party I feel I want to vote but this year I’m out ..x

I so enjoy reading but I have to have the book or magazine in hand. I use my Kindle on trips, so I don't have the added weight of my books. When I'm actually holding a book, my family will leave me alone, but if I'm on the Kindle, they don't hesitate to interrupt. I wonder why?

I would prefer to vote for Ron the Cat (even though he is not an American citizen) over the options we have. However I do vote in every election national or local. Sometimes it's a candidate I am really enthusiastic about, and sometimes it's just the 'lesser between to evils' option. Great vlog!

Caroline, just checking. Was there a problem with the sound when you were driving. It seemed to come from the tyres (hope you didn't have a flat or need air) as I could hear when you went over drains etc., or maybe it was the sound on my tablet, although sound was clear when you got to the kitchen.

Fabulous content as always Caroline 🙏🏻❤ I feel some women misunderstand the whole Women’s Liberation movement. Surely it’s about equal rights and opportunities? To shame or force someone is the exact opposite of that. Thankfully where voting is concerned we now have the same rights and freedoms as men. I wonder whether “Karen” posted her shame towards any man who chose not to vote? I doubt it 🙄 Reminds me of the women who were appalled at me for not returning to work after my daughter was born, that caring for home and family was now demeaning to women. What happened to freedom of choice? Nobody has the right to tell someone what the “should” do. I did vote, but it was difficult to choose when it’s always the same circus with different clowns 🤡Thank you for your wonderful vlogs, I really enjoy them ❤
