For any non D&D players who are curious about the magic classes: Druid-power comes from nature Wizard-learns magic via years of intense study Sorcerer (which is what Simon is in the movie) - magic bloodline. Usually cause someone in the past banged something magical like a demon or dragon in human form Warlock-magic from a pact with a powerful entity

DnD was a great movie. Not too heavy for people new to the world but definitely respects the game that it came from. Not too many meta style jokes. I really hope this does well so we can get more like this. Also, all the actors recorded a bit thanking people for seeing this in theatres. It was really cool. Keep seeing movies in theatres people.

Screen Crush had a good insight regarding the walking stick being a magical maguffin. If this were a DM's campaign, the bridge would be a big puzzle the DM designed that the players immediately messed up. But since progress depended on the players getting past the bridge, the DM would have to quickly come up with some way to get past it.

I think the portal staff's reveal was absolutely plot convenience (though a bit of a nod to the games, when sometimes the DM just goes "fine, here is an way out to your stupidity"), but the main point of that scene was to emphasize that the wizard is in fact more knowledgable and capable than he believes himself to be. This thing has been around with other people and people just assumed it was a fancy walking stick, including people with knowlege of magical items like the bard himself, and he knew exactly how it worked and how to make use of it instantly. That is what made the scene work for me, it isn't just a "oh we have this here" it is a "we have this guy actually" scene.

Had an absolute blast with DnD. Even fo rpeople who know nothing about DnD, this is just a fun adventure movie with some magic and monsters. But, a lot of namedrops, references, and style that I think will please fans. There are so many instances that make it feel like an actual game of DnD from character decisions, to NPC characters controlled by the DM to drop in and out of the party, and very lucky coincidences that can be attributed to the DM giving the party a little help. Probably my favorite thing is Hulga's last name being Killgore. Such a player character name for a barbarian. The only criticism i could really give is no rogue shenanigans and not enough roll checks for traps/history/knowledge. But even that is a nitpick. Lot of fun, and good family movie i would argue.
@Taurusus

I took literally everyone but the "Bard" (he does zero magic, isn't particularly book-smart, I think he might actually be a Mastermind Rogue? It's pointless to speculate, so let's not) knowing about Xenk to be a "Roll... History?" and him getting a natty 1. "Oh, it was a DC5, everyone knows about Xenk Yendar (incidentally, a very DMy name :p). Except... you, I guess."

There are a few indie directors with that kind of clout; Noah Baumbach, Greta Gerwig, Jason Reitman, off the top of my head. Oftentimes, the actors act as producer as well. They don't really have to make money. It's more like a showcase of their talents, like doing theater.

Druids are connected with nature magic (that's why they transform into animals or talk to animals). Wizards use magic from reading them in books and study magic. I don't know if you get to be born wizard, but it's more like a genius of reading and knows lots about magic. Sorcerers are born with magic in them, so they can use whatever force they have in them. (In the italian version of the movie they called Simon a sorcerer, i don't know in english how they called him). This is what i understood from playing just one session of D&D last month 😅

My Matt Reeves Clayface fan theory: Clayface is a fading actor/actress famously know for their ability to play any character due to their knack for practical special effects makeup and prosthetics. Very much a Lon Chaney "The Man with 1000 faces" proxy. They've been fazed out of the industry due to CGI and technology essentially replacing their talents. Plus a reputation for ego and diva like behavior have left them essentially blacklisted. Obviously I don't know the plot of this film, but you weave their motivations for crime into it whatever way fits the narrative, but it allows for two cool things: 1 - It keeps it grounded in the "heightened but real" world that made the first film so strong, while giving Reeve's an ability to homage to those golden era of Hollywood figures and play with all the fascinating ins and outs of practical makeup that would just be cool to see and would play well in the noir tone. 2 - While the first movie was about Batman/Bruce Wayne's journey from vigilante madman to Dark Knight Hero (which it nailed btw) then introducing this type of antagonist would help establish the questions of "Identity" and the importance of both Batman AND Bruce Wayne as SEPARATE identities necessary to the salvation of Gotham City. Moving the needle of the first movie's theme even further and bringing us closer to the Batman/bruce Wayne we know and love from the comics. Just my two cents.

You’re not afraid to express your opinion and call it like it is, but you are always careful to remind people that we do not have all the facts, and that all we can do is react to what we are presented with. Im almost always down for cutting costs in this ridiculous overbloated world and weird shit like going out in disguise and making new notepads out of trash is hilarious. Obviously some of his decisions werent good but just like when people like to shit on former DC publisher Dan Didio we always will hear more about the failures and potential mistakes than the successes. Sure Feige having control in 2015 and finishing Phase 3 turned out great but it also led to the mid to bad situation Marvel is in for Phase 4. If this dude still was in charge we probably wouldnt have gotten shit like Eternals or She Hulk and maybe gotten a smaller scale and fun Ant Man 3. IDK its just a weird time for Marvel and Disney in general.
