I watched Dredd in theaters, but I hadn't actually even heard of it. My gf were leaving the wine festival, wandered over to the theater, and it was the first movie about to start. Turned out to be such a good watch

Another plus about this movie is great female characters. Nice to see roles where gender/race isn't their primary character trait. They're actually people. Just a fantastic movie.

3:50 This Dredd design is based on the first uniform he wears in the first year of the comics. It was a slender all black biker uniform. With small shoulder pads. The badge is the most outlandish part of the first year outfit.

I would argue that the helmet with a red X in the middle that somehow doesn't block out Dredd's vision is the most outlandish part of the outfit.

@@mattemery4081 I always just assumed it was the same concept as the transparent mirror. Utilizing thin layer of metal that appears solid on one side but transparent on the other
@mattemery40814 жыл бұрын
@@orinanime I mean more from a design perspective, like it's all flat Matte blacks and oxidised copper and it looks extremely practical until you get to the helmet, with it's more idiosyncratic sensibilities.

@@orinanime Do you have a link/image/reference to what you're talking about? I can't find a single comic where he doesn't have the golden shoulder pads. Even in the 2000AD black and white comic, while not as big, he still clearly has the shoulder plates, eagle right shoulder and chain.
@orinanime4 жыл бұрын
@@Fanible yes. He still has them in the first year but they're small. I never said that he doesn't have them. I said in the first year of comics they're small and not outlandishly huge. For example www.amazon.com/Judge-Dredd-Complete-Case-Files-ebook/dp/B00BEEC6L2#immersive-view_1603423426419 Looking at the multiple panels here, you can see that the eagle and pauldron start small, and by the last illustration start growing in size www.waitwhatpodcast.com/drokk-ep-1-i-hear-you-citizen/ Which is basically what we got in the movie. www.imagebam.com/image/38527f203148050 Compare McMahon's first year drawings to Ezquerra's initial rejected design that he brought back. That eventually became Dredd's trademark look. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/695/cpsprodpb/4125/production/_94677661_ezquerracover.jpg

I really do think that when _"3-D"_ is part of the movie title, it hurts it's performance. When had that ever helped? It makes it sound gimmicky and cheap.

This is my fav comic based movie by far - I love the tone it sets, and how it's not trying to be another origin story and cram in backstory. More of a day-in-the-life take.

Dredd is a good movie. Good, not great. Lena Headey was the worst thing about the 2012 reboot. Don't get me wrong she's a good actress and I liked her in 300. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Game of Thrones. But, her acting in Dredd was bad.
