So once upon a time there was a middling fic written by Midnight Shadow called Elements of Discord. There was an Alternate reality where things were generally darker. The younger of the Alicorns was of the Sun and she banished her older sister and ruled as the Sun tyrant. NOW just like Equestria had the elements of Harmony, Estrosia had the elements of Discord. WeepyCry was the element of Sorrow. Skip forward the tumblr this tributes to, took that idea and ran with it. Story has stalled though
