This has one of if not the most intense buildup and breakdown I've ever heard in rock song (at least in the recording). In this performance, the bassist is doing his own thing, and not letting the guitars bring that apprehensive but intense buildup. Unfortunate.

Not sure 'bout this bass line, but every time I hear it from the original - my emotions pop off.

I could be wrong, but I think this was around the time they had a different bassist for one album (The green album) so I guess that could be why
@ObiWanKenobi5 жыл бұрын
Matthew Cornwell no this is their current bassist. Fresh from when they fired the Green Album bassist (Mikey Welsh). Welsh always played their old stuff like how the original bassist did, but Scott mostly puts his version to.

@@KingBlonde This doesn’t fit Shriner’s personality. Seems more like Welsh playing.

@@Fakename70 no this doesn’t sound like Mikey, he played all the old songs as they were. Also this concert is from 2002 when Scott first joined so it literally couldn’t be Mikey. Also if you want to see a performance that actually has Mikey look up only in dreams live in lupos.

This song makes me feel old. Talking about a bunch of unrequited dreams nearly 20 years ago. Everything about this song screams "Early 90s" and that time seems so far away. Seems that even Weezer forgot about it.
@Garfington6 ай бұрын
Some people don't like the changeup on the bass, idk but I love it. I think Scott did a good job with the way he changed it up, and I think it suits the band well for this time period. The ending especially is great. Dudes a talented bassist.

Sub Zero I get your point, trying to put your own flair on it. But that is the most bass-driven song in their library. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And I imagine that you play like you speak. Boring. Best of luck to you.
@subDIACzero210 жыл бұрын
Paul Grosfield Oh and before you reply, go learn to play the song on the bass and then tell me it's an absolute fun challenge to play (after practicing it dozens of times with some band). It may sound great, but it's not something to go crazy about covering note for note...
@scorpion596810 жыл бұрын
Paul Grosfield "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is something lame, and lazy, people say. Especially in the music scene. And that was also an awful reply. "You're boring." Fat a$$. It's actually lamer to watch someone who covers a song note for note like a human jukebox... which I imagine you are (if you can even play music)...

1 person who disliked this is Matt Sharp cause Scott ruined his bass line

IMO, Scott didn't ruin the song because of his technique, but because of his awful tone. The bass is to fat.
@madiqs76153 жыл бұрын
hmm I agree. I actually really like Scott’s twist to it. I just think the tone was off and that is what bothers me a bit, and maybe he put some unnecessary pedals to it too (at least that’s what I hear).

@madiqs76153 жыл бұрын
I don’t think so. You can tell that they really love what they are doing and aren’t doing it for the money at all. Also, if they really didn’t care for music anymore, they wouldn’t be so nice to fans as they have always been. If they were hanging onto it for the money, then they wouldn’t have kept this band together. Just because their albums after blue and Pinkerton are a bit mediocre, doesn’t mean that they have finally lost their interest. I think every musician goes through that phase of bringing out sucky music. I could even name a few horrible songs from my favorite band of all time. I just think you need to learn the difference between releasing bad music vs. losing motivation in ones career.
