I was 10 years old when this album came out. I had heard the radio singles so I borrowed the CD from a friend. While cleaning my room, it was probably the first album I ever listened to from start to finish without skipping around. When Only in Dreams came on, after the second chorus, I was expecting it to end. It didn't. It kept going and building. By the time the song ended I realized I had unconsciously stopped cleaning to lie down on my stomach inches from my boom box with my chin in my hands, propped up on my elbows. I had been entirely entranced by the instrumental climax of the song. That's when I realized music was a heart language and I never listened to music the same way again.

For me, the Blue Album, and weezer as a whole, was the bridge between childhood and teenage-hood. I tried listening to all the songs teenagers were "supposed" to listen to, and when none of the new stuff really got me, I listened to stuff for people who liked rebellion, All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, they didn't speak to me either, I kind of thought of them as stuck up, but then I listened to Weezer on my way home from some vacation. I was on a flight, and after hearing some songs I had liked, i downloaded a random weezer playlist off of youtube, played Buddy Holly like, 15 times in a row, and then, took my earbuds out and thought, "now what," I slowly stopped listening to the stuff my parents liked, and became a massive weezer fan. That's how it impacted my life I guess.

i am where you were. I don't really like the songs that are popular among people my age in my country at all, not to disrespect anyone's taste though. But i do wish people's taste here was more varied and that they respected people who don't listen to the same shit too.

I've always wondered the story behind "Jonas". He seems to represent Rivers in both "My Name Is Jonas" and Songs From The Black Hole. I didn't realize the character from "No One Else" was the same as the character from "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here". Buddy Holly has to be a nerdy love song. The "your eyes are slit line" seems to foreshadow Rivers's taste in Asian women (Across The Sea, El Scorcho, his actual marriage) I didn't also didn't know that Mykel voices the the girl in Undone! Interesting how Surf Wax is not one of the bigger Blue tracks, yet the beach rock style ended up being used the most over their career. Love all the old pictures you found too! Think you'll cover the rest of the stuff on the Deluxe version eventually?

I remember I was jamming to My Name is Jonas and my history teacher told me if I had heard any other weezer stuff and he told me to check out this album. He told me this band wrote an entire song devoted to liking X-men and KISS and for some reason that was enough for me to make my mom take me to Best Buy to get it. Changed my life, best introduction for this band you could have😍 It was the first album I could truly I loved with my whole being. So nostalgic. Love this video, excellent work!

this album means a lot to me. As well as the band. All of my other faves lack something on that relatability, be it the display of insecurity and fragility, or of hope even if small, or mabye even abstractness. But this one is perfect. I can relate and/or empathise with everything in this one. ESPECIALLY only in dreams. It doesn't feel like a song about a concrete thing, but more like a feeling or set of them. But i think of it exactly as you say, a song about a person who wants to be with another but can only dream about it, think about the what ifs. And wait. But they have hope, i see hope in that melody. Masterpiece, simply.

It's actually from my own perspective! Before my girlfriend and I started to date, we were huge Weezer fans. Following a long drive of us talking and listening to Weezer, Only In Dreams played. After it was finished I admitted to her how I felt and we held hands afterwards and started to date. Pretty mushy stuff I know, but it was cute!
