Is it just me or did Matt say that Rivers is full of shit when Rivers says he has a weak personality and isnt a glory seeker? Check it at 2:23. Sounds like a lot of tension between the two of them there.
@yandibreaux15359 жыл бұрын
TheCloudsandTheSkies Yeah, I think there was. In this video Matt alludes that didn't like the low-key promotion of Pinkerton with the low concept videos to "El Scorcho" and the "Good Life". He says in this interview that he wanted Spike Jones to direct their videos for this album, which I would have wanted as well since Spike offered a pretty crazy concept video (similar to his directed work for "Undone" and "Buddy Holly". I think Matt loves the weird concept videos and approach to promoting their albums, he used the same technique the introduce us to his side project The Rentals. I think River's subdued aesthetic for Pinkerton just rubbed Matt the wrong way and came off as pretentious to him as his attitude towards River's conversation with the interviewer makes it pretty clear. Hopefully, they've put this behind them...

I must comment and say that when the kids got to ask a ? that it was by far the most intelligent ? I've ever seen asked by an audience member to a musician, in fact anyone... is it really that intellectual, no. However from what I've seen in the past by comparison it's off the charts, it immediately segued my mind into the cementation that the 90s, and it would stand 60s and 70s, but most defintally the 90s were better than the 00s like I always have stated. Haha that maj7 question was so dumb and Rivers is so nice.
@AnotherWorldYT5 жыл бұрын
how was the question dumb? all he said was "hey you use 7th chords a lot, is that intentional or do you just like the sound?" That's not a dumb question, many bands write by ear and don't exactly know every bit of theory there is out there. Rivers answer was more dumb than the question, "power chords are boring so i use notes that are out" well the notes aren't out, they're just a wider interval. Rivers wasn't very deep into his music theory at this point.
@N0Camping4U4 жыл бұрын
@@AnotherWorldYT Not true, he was actually very proficient with music theory. Check out the book 'at rivers edge'. He was way more adept than what his answer is implying. I think he simplified his reasoning, if he nerded out like he wanted to it would go over everyone else's heads due to the esoteric nature of the topic.
