I am having a blast listening to your commentary. Your ‘battle’ has helped me understand the game mechanics but I’m really enjoying your dilemma. Keep up the great work Herr General!!!!

Thanks for making this video. I love the WEGO system. One thing I feel is missing from the terrain effect, is that of terrain height.

Looks like a remake of the old Avalon Hill World at War Stalingrad from 1994. Nearly identical mechanisms and subject matter.

is it possible to use the attack missions as extra reconnaissance? Maybe send an attack to an area you want to find out more about. If there are no targets nothing happens. if it finds something you will information and an attack? Another question - is there a way to see if those first air attacks at about the 50 minute mark were successful or to get a damage report? Or did the targets move from the hexes before the attacks got there? Just noticed in the later portions of the video there were some battle result windows. One thing that is confusing is it seems to show the attacker on the left. defender on the right always. But in the overall view of the battle the Germans are on the left, the Russians on the right. That is a source of confusion, you have to pay extra attention when looking at those result screens. Also, I really liked this video, of someone learning a game.

Attacks (hasty and prepared) can be ordered to adjacent hexes ONLY if enemy units are there. Given the scale of the hexes, I think it's reasonable to assume that a Bn group would have some sort of organic recon assets or just combat patrols. But you are right, sometimes that intel is not enough and you may bump into nasty surprises. For that you have several options on how to order your attack (limited, all-out, etc.). If not in contact, you can order your unit to move and upon contact to attack, assume a defensive posture and (IIRC), bypass the enemy unit encountered. Sorry I didn't go into detail about that important aspect. A new video is due! 😀
