its far from a stock engine cog belts are not available for this blower its the better 10 rib belt setup over the 6 rib that blower would have originally come with. this jag was originally a straight 6 i put the 350 in it but you obviously don't have a clue. btw kb hypereutectic pistons are not ideal blower pistons.

Here in the UK, Wondering what to add to my 1980 Z28 Camaro and the 454 chevy big block,( I think from a 1974 C10 Pick up). the video was really useful as it gives me an idea of what is involved. I have Edelbrock RPM Performer heads and good pistons, and TH400 3 speed transmission. so I think a supercharger would be a good addition , for the street and maybe the odd drag meet. Thanks for the video :) Let me know if you have any tips or advice as this is all new to me

Good to see a fairly recent install of the 144. I put one on my '79 z28 twenty years ago. I actually filmed some of it with a 8mm Sony handycam and recently put it on youtube, you can see it on my channel it says BOOST on the thumbnail. Something I think I'll do is cut out the center divider on the intake gasket between the ports and knife edge the divider wall between the ports on the heads. Should smooth out air flow because the blower intake doesn't separate the ports it just uses one big port for the two runners. I'm curious if you have thought about this.
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 4 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't hurt generally gains from smoothing air flow are much smaller on a boosted application than normally aspirated. A pully swap would give much more gains however as I'm sure you already know these small blowers create a ton of heat when you start pushing them. My engine made 400hp before the blower and iv got it dialed in on 6-7psi with the blower rpm maxed out on redline biggest issue has been controlling heat. Water methonal does good e85 is better. I'm probably eventually going to go to the bigger 177 to be able to run the same or maybe a lb or two more boost while spinning the blower a bit slower. There probably are some gains that could be had in the manifold but I don't think they would be huge gains. There can be some pretty on the intake side of the blower. The small restrictive air filters can easily cost you a lb of boost and your probably want to run a bit bigger carb than you would a equivalent engine normally aspirated there pretty sensitive to any restrictions on the inlet side of the blower
@toefield251
@toefield251 4 жыл бұрын
@@Ezrider359 I agree entirely on everything you said. I'm from the "every little bit counts" school of thought. I'm also not crazy about cranking boost with a smaller blower pulley because of the heat like you mentioned. A plate system should take care of things, start with a 100hp shot and go from there. You're dead on with the small air filters, mine acts like a choke when I hammer down there's a plume of black smoke behind me. The only way around it is to cut a hole in the hood. I have no desire to run a 5" cowl hood. I hope you make videos of the 177 if you go with that, I look forward to them.

yeah bench racing double atmospheric pressure (14.65psi) you double the horsepower so in theory i am peeking around 6-7 psi i am making almost 600, of course that's not real world and there is the parasitic loss of the blower itself. 550-560 is probably a bit more realistic. im going to bring the boost down a bit more yet for street driving target 4-5lbs should be a good honest 480-500hp there. my belt was too short for the pulley i ordered to target 4-5psi so im running the one i intended for the drag strip right now. if i switch to a larger chamber head later on ill probably run the 6-7psi on the street plus gain a bit from better flowing heads. but that doesn't really tell the whole story, the gains under the curve are very pronounced, you can break it loose from a cruse at 30mph just by mashing the gas. i plan to get it to the drag strip in the spring should be able to calculate a solid horsepower number from the mph if i haven't rented dyno time before then. i have not even reved it out all the way yet....lol iv got the rev limiter set at 5200 right now and its a 6k rpm engine its tuned super rich under throttle and very little ignition advance.

nice, im in the bis/man area. install went pretty smooth, i did end up switching to a double pumper after this video with the vac secondary carb and the artificial vacuum under the carb wanted to pull the secondary's open faster than the boosters could deliver the fuel. so i had to jet way richer to compensate without a accelerator pump on the secondary's, by the time i slowed the secondary's down enough to minimize the a/f swing throttle response took a pretty big hit. put a holly brawler 4150 double pumper on it that i modified for a manifold referenced power valve for half the price of holleys supercharger specific version of the 4150 (did a video on that as well) that carb is working very well for me. i bought my supercharger used on e-bay for 2k witch i felt was a good deal considering it was already upgraded to the 7" crank pulley and 10 rib belt setup also came with both a standard sbc intake as well as a vortec manifold. as well as the original 6 rib belt setup. considering im running vortec heads now and plan to upgrade to probably a set of afr 195 heads in the future it seemed like a good value with the extra's
@sergeantspeed5941
@sergeantspeed5941 5 жыл бұрын
@@Ezrider359 I was about to say, my sbc is the swirl port heads and vortec style aftermarket heads perform way better, for a good price, just didn't know you could get a blower intake for them. It would be an easy way to get substantial gains with the blower. After the double pumper switch, how does the response feel? I have to ditch the tbi setup I think to get anything reliable as far as tuning. Also I dont know what your setup is for the block, just a factory 350? Any cam or porting? I'm trying to push the stock 350 close to 400 with a blower. A cam possibly if I delete the tbi, simply because of tuning issues when there's no vacuum at idle. I could go all out with cam/head/blower but the factory t5 would most likely grenade immediately. I'm still tempted though
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 5 жыл бұрын
throttle response is excellent, so much torque under the curve will pretty much break the back end loose at will from a cruse in 2nd gear just by stabbing the throttle, will burn em to 70 if you don't lift. bottom end is mostly just good stock stuff. its using factory forged rods and forged crank 4 bolt main block. (can find these in lots of gen 1 vortec hd trucks 3/4 ton and higher) its got a lt4 hot cam in it .525 valve lift split duration cam on 114*lsa exhaust side on the heads is ported a bit and the heads are obviously modified for the valve lift, made close enough to 400hp on a engine dyno without the blower when i put the engine together with the blower math estimates would put me right around 500hp on pump gas at 5psi and iv run it at 7psi with octane booster witch should be making closer to 600. i have not dyno'd the car or run it down the track yet on this setup to get a solid real power number though. when i upgrade to aftermarket heads im going to go larger chamber to drop my c/r down a bit so i can run the higher boost on straight pump gas. plus better flowing heads should give me even more power.

QUESTION? I’ve a sbc with flat top pistons, Vortec heads & about 9.5-1 compression. Is it possible to boost an engine with 9.5-1 or bad idea? Great video.
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 5 жыл бұрын
vortec heads with flat tops generally result in a cr higher than 10:1 vortec's should be around a 64cc combustion chamber. if your block is decked or your head shaved that will also raise compression ratio and head gasket thickness and bore size also affect c/r my engine is around 9.3:1 with vortec's and dished pistons. if you are at 9.5:1 more than 3-4 psi you really need to make sure things are right. camshafts play a part as well as it affects dynamic compression. another thing to take into affect is intake air temperatures. the small blowers like im running generate a lot of heat by the time you spin them fast enough to make meaningful boost on a healthy small block. running 6-7 psi is not exactly pump gas friendly on my engine not because of cr but due to high intake air temperatures. i ran water methanol injection for quite a while with great success but currently running e85 with better results as its cooling the blower and iat's all the time rather than just under boost and really helps with preventing heat soak.

Hey I have a 10066036 motor, stock with a 580 quick fuel carb. The motor has 30,000 miles on it. Will the Weiand 142 be too small for this engine? As well as the carb? If I do buy the supercharger should I keep boost at 6 psi as well so I don’t blow anything. This is going in a s10 blazer by the way.
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 5 жыл бұрын
It's going to depend on the total package. Mine is a 350 with a fairly good volumentic efficiency with modified and ported vortec head's and a .525 lift split duration roller cam on 114 lsa blower is maxed out at 6psi at 6k RPM a stock smog motor would probably make 10+ psi on the same pulley ratio. But less power. As far as max safe boost. Compression ratio is going to have a lot to do with that. Also keeping in mind these small blowers generate a lot of heat when you start cranking up the boost. I'm now running water methonol to control iats and detonation the 142-144 blowers are sized pretty good for a stock/ mild sbc in the 380-400 flywheel hp range. I'm pushing mine quite a bit harder than that as I was making that before the blower but a larger case blower would be much better suited for my application

i just got a chance to check that casting number looks like what you have is a 2pc rear main seal gmgoodwrench engine. as that is a block casting number i can't be 100% sure of what parts went in in but most likely its the kinda standard 250hp crate engine small heads with big chambers 8.5:1 compression cast dished pistons. and a stock/tiny cam you should probably be fine to run 5-6lbs of boost on it pretty safely. any time you run boost on cast pistons though you have to be very careful to not create any pre ignition to make it live. ring gaps opened up a bit would be a good idea as well but really at 5psi on heads that don't flow that great and the low compression ratio should be safe. would probably make a really torquy 300-330hp at 5lbs you would probably want a bigger carb. roots blowers don't mind being over carbed and don't like any restriction on the inlet side id probably run a 650 on it with the blower. with a roots blower you don't get as much of the low rpm muddyness you get over carbed on a normally aspirated setup im currently running a 750cfm double pumper quick fuel 4150 on mine.

the trans builder (im not much of a transmission guy) claims this transmission build should hold up to 650 hp. i told them i was making about 400hp at the time but had plans for 550-600. of course i didn't mention i was going to get there with a roots blower witch makes a lot more torque than a normal engine at that power level so i guess were see. trans builder laid out a parts list of what he claims is a 650hp transmission. hardened upgraded pump and gears kevlar bands shift kit corvette servo .500 boost valve ect. if this transmission doesn't hold up ill probably have to go to a 4L80e. at the boost psi i am at right now bench racing calculators say i should be making about 590hp but iv got the tune up real conservative. and rpm's limited at 5200. so realistically a good bit less than that. the pulley that is on it right now i calculated out for a drag strip race gas pulley so im running a lot of octane booster, the other one i ordered should put me about 530hp 91 octane friendly. belt was a little too short for that pulley though so i need a longer belt but that's where it will run on the street. i put a couple hundred miles on it already though and ability to just light up the tires at will even in 2nd gear is so much fun...lol

Never put it on a Dyno but the engine made right around 400hp at the flywheel without the blower currently running 7-8lbs of boost with e85. It runs strong. I'd guess 580+ at the crank 475+ or so at the tire. Little blower is maxed out and needs cooling to keep IAT in check ran water/methonol injection for a while and now e85. Would need a bigger blower to make more power and I'm kinda pushing it for what I built the engine for anyways.

no i put this one together a couple years ago before i started doing video's that block may end up in this car. when i put this engine together i knew i wanted to eventually supercharge it but also knew that i was going to run it n/a for a while so its not really a ideal combination for either n/a or supercharged so the fact that im rebuilding another engine i might build a more supercharger specific engine out of it and put it in this car then recycle this engine in the other project that that engine is supposed to be for if that makes sense. that's kinda part of the hold up on why i haven't sent that engine off to the machine shop yet. trying to decide if i want to pull the engine back out of this project to make it better or just leave well enough alone. the other project i don't plan to ever do forced induction on so the build plan for the engine would be entirely different. the biggest problem with this engine is the compression ratio will limit me to about 5lbs of boost on 91 octane but if i built it any lower it would have been a real slug n/a. ill probably run it as is for a bit before i make up my mind.

cool would you consitter using a stall converter in a automatic trans? nice patch you left on the road there :+}
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 5 жыл бұрын
i am leaning towards leaving this engine alone esp as this one is a 4 bolt main and the other is a 2 bolt main, i can drop the compression ratio a bit by going to a larger chamber head but if i put a really good flowing head on it ill probably be pushing into power ranges that will require more forged parts i beam rods ect. but im leaning towards leaving this one alone and if it blows up re-do it then and keep the 4 bolt main block with the blower application.

That radiator “hose” is going to be very restrictive.
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 5 жыл бұрын
that is non issue. coolant does not move that fast, if fact if your coolant is moving too fast is can cause problems because it wont stay in the radiator long enough to shed the heat. the 90* bend could be rounded out a bit by using a couple more pie cuts rather than just 1 but its really non issue. i plan to eventually use a different radiator and when i do ill order a radiator with the top hose on the driver side then i should be able to find a off the shelf hose that will fit.

Can one of these be put on a stock 305? At 5psi?
@Ezrider359
@Ezrider359 4 жыл бұрын
yes. any time you add boost to a engine you need to make sure your tune up is right proper timing and a/f ratio but beyond that you should be ok. your want to know your compression ratio as well. 5psi on 9.6:1 compression is probably closer to the safe limit on 91 octane but with 8.5:1 you should have a good bit of safety margin.

Blower cam is going to be most efficient but you can use a non blower cam. I am running a lt4 hot cam on mine witch is like 525 lift on 114 lsa split duration favoring the exhaust side not specifically a blower cam but specs a favorable for a blower your want a cam that's in the 112-114 lsa range.

@@QdotRich as far as how do i like it and how much hp. horsepower will be determined by how the engine is set up that its installed on. its a easy bolt on 30% horsepower gain with big gains on low to mid range torque witch makes for a engine that is a lot of fun to drive. the small blowers are a bit limited due to there small displacement. a lot of people say that there done for by 500hp but my engine was 400 at the flywheel before the blower with a pully ratio that puts the blower at its max rated 14000 rpm at 6k engine rpms gives me a bit over 6lbs of boost witch should make a theoretical 600+ hp. at the flywheel haven't dynoed it yet though. in the real non internet world it makes for a very stout combination. i think its a worth while mod esp if your after a street car vrs a race car as the gains under the curve are very impressive. but if your after a big peek number a procharger or turbo setup would be better.

Hi , just reading theough some of the replies here . So let me get this right , you are running a 350 with vortec heads modded for the extra lift the hotcam will give you with 1.6 ratio rocker arms . I have all of this now , and have a weiand 142 vortec blower . My questions are : does the blower work well with the lt4 hotcam ? Are you still running the 1.94/1.5” stock valves . What mods did you do to the stock block , or did you not touch it . Thanks for your time . Cheers from Australia . Adam
