Thanks Conrad for your first impressions. I love my Quark, but we are all constantly looking for better equipment.

I recently switched to the new quarks from the previous generation and almost everything about them is worse. The grip flops around in my hand because of the flatness. The pommel rest is also flatter. I actually wrapped them in both in tape and they still don’t swing as good as the old. The folding part of the pommel is a bad idea, my first day out and they froze shut, I had to breath on them to open but the button was jammed and wouldn’t lock. Kinda dangerous

Conrad Anker is the best

Vlad, I don't think there is a bias issue in here. He's comparing tools from the same company, and whatever he says makes a lot of sense. There are great differences between tools.

Wish they'd make those white Sirocco's available! Heard from Petal that the they had to be recalled?
@WeighMyRack6 жыл бұрын
Yea the white is awesome! I didn't inquire on the full story about the white, but it's obviously been a headache. I've only seen two people with them -- Conrad and another sponsored Petzl climber, Andres Marin.

Yeah it seems like only those sponsored got them initially.

What do you expect him to say if they (Petzl) are paying him for this???
@danielr.71376 жыл бұрын
The question is, if you trust him. And I think he knows that other mountaineers and their lives rely on equipment like this. He has a responsibility and as I judge him, he does not handle it lightly. He has just proved once again in the Antarctic that he can lead an expedition responsibly.

This is a fair question. The reason we filmed Conrad and wanted to hear what he had to say is because each person uses gear differently. Like if you watch our video from Anne Gilbert Chase, she prefers the Nomics in most situations, where Conrad prefers a totally stripped down Quark more often. Partly that's because their focus is different, but it's always cool to hear where gear works well and curious who uses what (and it's ok if some of that use is due to sponsorship). And, if you noticed, in the video, Conrad does allude to the previous Ergo being a crappy option for ice (versus the new ergonomic which is designed for mixed/ice) so it's not all roses.

I'm not questioning Conrads skill or rep. I'm am pretty sure he can climb on pair of hammers from hardware store waaay harder than I ever will with Nomics. Maybe just a hint of information that Conrad is sponsored by Petzl and his opinion may be somewhat biased? Like with a sponsorship contract.
@WeighMyRack6 жыл бұрын
Oh, interesting, I didn't get that connotation from your first note -- this is a great point. I think we just assumed folks knew he was Petzl sponsored. I'm going to add a "sponsored" note in the description and we'll see how we can add in those types of details into the video directly next time. Thanks for taking the time to comment and clarify :)

It is not that obvious especially taking into account he was Black Diamond guy for many years and the Petzl sponsorship is quite new
