Ouray Day 4 - On our last full day of ice climbing in Ouray, CO, we monopolized eight routes for the day and just climbed our hearts out. I decided to catch up with Pat, Conrad Anker, and Anne Gilbert Chase and ask them for some tips on how to be a better ice climber.

Nice job, Ben! Agree about the music, take it down a notch, please. Love the tool twirling! Thanks for drawing out the reason for "heels down" - to engage the secondary (side) points- the difference between balancing on a cane or standing on a tripod. Kicking explanation could use more organization. I find many folks swing their feet with fairly straight legs, not that they intentionally point their toes down. But when they bring their knees up and swing their feet - as Anne actually did - the toes (usually) automatically go up with no additional conscious effort. So try kicking with knees up! As for feet separation, I say feet close for mobility (stepping up), and wide for stability. Mostly. Unless there are big honkin' pockets or ledges- always use the terrain first. Ice love!

Nice, useful video. I presume the music was meant a bit ironically.

I appreciate the video... I really do but us viewers couldn't care less about the music - especially with bad and distracting music.

@@SeekOutTheAdventure - The ice was great. Most of the time it felt like Hero Ice. One nice swing & your tool would have a solid stick. We hit up everything from picked out routes, mixed climbing, thin routes, & leading. I am going to try and post day 2 today to my channel.

@@kodaexploring5176 very jealous. We've been doing a lot of snowboarding lately. I've been out ice climbing twice this season. I need to get the wife and kids out to try it as well.

I believe that all or most of this footage was shot on a GoPro. I rarely mount it on my helmet. I mostly hand hold it or use a bite mount.

1. Music is bad and too loud. 2. Title VERY misleading and borderline click-bait. 3. Just a dude bugging a bunch of climbers at the ice crag to make a mediocre KZbin vid. Sorry not sorry: just honest criticism.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I'll see what I can do to hit those three points next time.
